man that spotter takes up a lotta room inside my pack, just wondering if it would be too unwieldy, on the tripod outside the pack?

easy enough to try different options, just wondering what most do...

Looking forward to the day when I have this problem. Still without a spotter...someday! I have a hunting partner who throws it under the lid of their pack (in between the bag and the lid) and it seems to be very effective in both carrying and not taking up room inside the pack. He can keep it on the tripod when he does it this way too.

What pack are you running? I’ve carried mine inside my pack but now carry it under the lid between the bag or in the front long pocket of my Kuiu bag.

In the side pockets for hike in and out , on tripod on outside when hunting out from camp because its usually to switch glassing spots when im moving. 44mag bag

Sandwiched between pack lid and pack with tripod attached.
Pros:

No added weight to my pack, like a designated pocket would do, doesn’t take up any room inside the pack, extremely well protected, stays well balanced on the pack so as not having all the weight on one side, and once my pack is off, It only takes unbuckling the two buckles that keep my lid on, deploying the legs of the tripod, popping the lens covers off, and I am glassing.

Cons:

I really haven’t found anything negative about this system.

new mystery ranch popup 28. i have liter water bottles in each of the side pockets.

with upper and lower long johns, rain/wind pants, game bags, rangefinder and kestrel, kill kit, etc, and the spotter, there is about a square inch to spare in there! sammiches and snacks will have to go in my coat pockets.

Are you huntin a trophy unit for big bulls or huntin otc where you’ll kill any legal bull? If ur just killin the first bull you see just leave it at the truck....

2nd year elk hunting, this will hopefully be my first elk, so yeah i'm not picky on size but i do want to glass with spotter vs binos, and do want the extra zoom to reach out a little more.

The pop up 28 isn’t a huge pack but I’d think you could run the tripod/spotter in one of the side pockets strapped in. Put your water bottles in your pack or use a bladder instead.
What spotter/tripod are you using?

pig 0311 tripod iirc (they modify a slik), pig saddle, vortex 20-80 razor hd.

i have it packed to the brim (just forced in a pair of electronic muffs i forgot, so those couple square inches of room are no more) so will leave it for now but may try to keep the spotter on the tripod (with pig saddle mounted) outside, strapped in opposite where my rifle will be.
