Way better bang for your buck than new scopes in the 1000 range. Optics are the best place to buy used . You can go far higher quality than
your financial 'weight class's would otherwise allow.

I can tell you what I wouldn’t buy, a Vortex Razor 22-48 x 60mm Gen 2. It cost me $1,300 dollars and is the worst scope I have ever owned. Its dark and the focus wheel is so tight its near impossible to get a clear picture. I can’t zoom much beyond 30x or its gets dark and grainy. I have a 20-60x60mm Vortex Diamond back that is much much better and way cheaper. I use my scopes mainly for mountain/backpack hunts in WA for deer, elk and bear and distances 400yds out to several miles and they are used during all the seasons. My brother bought the Razor Gen 1 in a 20-60x85mm and it has a main focus and also a fine focus wheel. That scope is $800 new and very nice, but its larger than I would pack most places.

Best bet if your budget is a 1000 dollars is to do the following:

Buy a mask or use a leftover mask from Halloween. Get some gloves. Find national wide sporting good chain with alpha glass. Preferably in a liberal city where the cops are busy dealing with social issues caused by the liberals.

Steal a spotter. Should have about 500 dollars left over.

You can thank me later.

I think the Kowa 553s are about 1k+ new on BHphoto.
$1000 for a new scope is not the best price point, I'd suggest getting a used one instead. Say a used Vortex Razor HD 85, or a Nikon Monarch 82
