Fiskars/Gerber here for a camp splitting axe. Splits wood as well as anything out there and cheap.

I have a Stihl pro splitting maul that I’ve used for a couple years that I really like.

I’ve got a small splitting axe that Husquavarna makes. It’s hand forged in Sweden and is quite a bit cheaper then a GB. Works great on smaller, fairly dry rounds and is small enough to pack if a guy really wanted to. They do make a bigger one as well.

For a fun winter project I am going to build a custom splitting axe off a restored vintage axe head and rehang it myself. Just bought a 3+ lb axe head off fleabay and will go pick out a hickory axe handle in the next few weeks. I am going to build it on a 28 inch handle. Would have preferred a 4 lb head but it should work fine for the wood I will be splitting in camp. It has a Tasmanian head profile and should make a fun camp axe.
