Do you guys carry a spare headlamp/light in your pack? Going through my pack list and trying to decide if I need a spare headlamp or not.

I've been using a zebralight for ~10 years now and its been bulletproof, but for some reason I'm freaked out that its gonna fail on a hunt and leave me in the dark..

Edit to add: I carry an extra 18650 battery, so running out of juice is not a concern.. the spare lamp is strictly for a failure of my main light.

I double up on mine. Last year I needed it after a longer than expected hunt. Battery finally went at night hiking out. Pulled out the fresh one and never skipped a beat. Worth the extra weight.

I keep a cheap spare energizer headlamp in my kill kit and I’ve had to use it a couple of times. I’ve left my main headlamp in the tent, and also loaned it to a friend who couldn’t locate his.

Yup, NU20 with shock cord replaced is 1oz. I end up using it more than my primary. I don’t carry duplicates of much, but to me a headlamp is worth it, especially at 1oz penalty.

This. Guys here will carry one 8 oz headlamp instead of two 1 oz ones and call us crazy for having two. I'll use both during the course of a hunt, usually need to charge one by day 4 or 5.

Yes - there are a number of very light headlamps out there, to me it's worth it - critical item.

I've been using Zebralight headlamps and I feel the need to carry and extra battery for mine although I've never needed one. I was carrying a petzl tikka as a backup light and an extra 18650. I got the bright idea to carry the extra battery in a zebralight side clicky handheld. This allows an extra battery and a backup light that also has more throw than the floody that I have for the headlamp and is lighter than what I had. I think a side clicky light is 1.3 ounces.

Always have a spare in my pack. I have had a few break over the years or accidentally get turned on in the pack.

Weighs nothing and doesn’t take up a lot of space! I also like having two when blood trailing. I pick up the blood better when hand holding one.

I always have 2. I have seen a lot of folks who make a bad decision at night because they think they know where they are or think they are going the right direction. Most of the time whatever light they did have failed and they just kept trying until they get lost or in a spot they can’t get out of.

It depends on the hunt. I am not too concerned on an antelope hunt, but I might carry 3 on a grizz infested backcountry horseback hunt where light is a necessity.

I too use the Zebra w/ 18650 battery. I do carry and extra battery but not a spare headlamp- I have my phone.

It's quality and LED.....the odds of it dying are slim to none.
