Soylent: Cheap Ultralight Meal Alternative

no matter what you're eating, the human body is the only organism known to science capable of turning gourmet food into ca ca in 24 hours or less.

I'm always interested in something new...

One thing I recommend- from experience- is to try eating some of these things beforehand as you never know what might cause you grief up on the mountain....I think this "soy everything" could fall into the category of causing explosive potty problems for some.

EPP....[hey a new acronym! grin] is not what you want to christen your new Kuiu pants.....

I just googled "soylent" & saw nothing but bad news, some of it only an hour ago. At least some of it has been recalled, & some folks are getting pretty sick, so Im out. Heads up!

The second ingredient of the packaged drink after water is maltodextrin. This is a cheap filler derived from gmo corn. Meal supplementing is a great idea but there is a lot of stuff out there that is better and cheaper- especially if you diy it.
----and I ain't talking about "mountain ops"!

I'm with you on the saving money and weight thing, not on drinking shakes instead of eating. Mountain house type meals aren't very common amongst serious backpackers. Too expensive, too heavy and to much sodium. I'd rather just take nothing but snacks if I was hardcore focused on saving weight and money on food. They should all provide at least 100 calories per oz of weight. Beef Jerky, almonds, goldfish crackers, pop-tarts, PB&J, salami in a tortilla, etc.
