I was killing time at work looking at random places on google maps. What kind of farming operations in southern Wisconsin create these designs in the fields? See attached screenshots.

Strip cropping... generally done on sloped terrain, pretty common around here, and they'll alternate crops planted. No need to worry, there's no deer or good hunting in Wisconsin!😉
South western Wisconsin is really hilly and referred to as the driftless area... was left untouched by glaciers and not flattened out. Really pretty.

Contour strips. You see this in our steeper agricultural land. Alternating strips of row crops and alfalfa helps with erosion.

It's contour farming. Looks like strips of corn and alfalfa in your pics. It slows the flow of water down to reduce erosion.

Thanks! I live in the flat lands. It looked very different than what I’m used to. I like looking at random places on google maps.

This. I've turkey hunted there a couple times and this is exactly what I've encountered. Cut corn with actively growing alfalfa.
