Planning a trip to Southwest Montana in the next couple years. Figured I’d bring the dogs and a shotgun along. I’ll be staying in the Dillon area, and I know it’s not ideal for upland birds but the location is more or less set in stone. Not asking for any pins of course, just curious if anyone has experience within 1-1.5 hours of there and what I can expect. It isn’t a dedicated hunting trip so if I could get into a pocket of huns or sharpies I’d be satisfied. I know the area is probably more prone to mountain grouse and I haven’t taken one of those before so I’m sure I’ll set one day aside specifically for them. Appreciate any input!

You should be able to get into some sharpies and huns. Huns can hold in some ugly places, but sharpies are all through the plains. I would key on areas with access to water and feed relatively nearby. If there’s ag close, even better.

Assuming you have typo because Dillon is not in Southeast MT but instead Southwest. If Dillon is the right town, I know there are some upland opportunities there but I've not hunted it.

You’re correct, I meant Southwest. Edited my original post.
