South Dakota Map Application for Android

Does anyone know if you can pre-download the map information on the SDGFP Outdoors App to my android smartphone (HTC EVO 4G)? We have been archery hunting NW South Dakota the past few years and we heard this map application is great. I am just worried about actually having 3G service to load the maps and I don't want to buy a separate GPS unit if I don't have to. There is such a mix of public/private that it would be really nice to avoid getting out the public atlas every time.

I emailed this question straight to the SD GFP and here is the response I received

"Maybe. You would have to download the areas in pieces though. The whole NW part of SD would be a large file, and most smart phones wouldn’t have the space for it. So if you have wifi or good coverage ( I would recommend wifi), you would be able to download areas to save space.

We haven’t actually set this up yet but when I’m free to, I plan on testing some ways of making this possible on smartphones."
