My very first thought. O'keefe has been kicking some very powerful hornet nests for years. I wouldn't be surprised if this is a similar situation.

With deepfakes and hacking it would be easy to cry fake over any and all charges. The timing on this is just too convenient. Like the studio kept it quiet long enough to get the movie into theaters and a couple weeks of box office

I don't disagree. I guess the crux of the issue is; does child sex trafficking happen? The answer to that is yes. On how large a scale is unknown, or at least tries to remain undetermined.

Sure, it's possible this entire thing is a giant, well-orchestrated conspiracy to discredit a man and organization in order to keep the scourge of human trafficking quiet so that they(?) can continue benefitting from that system.

Or, in my mind, more likely, Ballard and OUR got involved in some unethical practices to generate content and views to keep cash flowing their way (not unlike we see in the hunting influencer space), maybe over sensationalized certain content, or who knows, got themselves mixed up in financial misrepresentation as a 501c3. The vibe I get from the dude is that he's very egotistical with a savior complex. It wouldn't shock me if the allegations of sexual harassment were true.

I don’t think it has anything to do with child sex trafficking. Of course it is happening it’s been going on for millennia and this organization is hardly the only or the first. Even that headline “one man’s mission…” is propagandizing. He is probably the most vocal activist. His actual work lies not in actual stopping of trafficking but in visibility and advocacy.

The older I get, the more skeptical I become. I absolutely believe there is child trafficking and slavery, but I mean that I suspect anyone can be both good, or doing good, but still have an ulterior parallel motive, or be more complicated than it appears initially. Trust but verify, or some variation on that.

FWIW - I pulled up and skimmed the most recent (2021) OUR Form 990 (tax return filed with the IRS). TL;DR - there is nothing it that shocks me (especially compared to the NRA's returns). I do note the following:

• they receive a lot of revenue ($40mm, and almost $46mm the year before), have a good amount of assets ($68mm and $82mm, respectively), and very little debt - seems positive
• a majority of the board is listed as independent - good sign
• they have a written conflict of interest policy, and other governance provisions - not all do
• Tim's total listed comp is $355k - fine, and total comp for high level execs - $1.8mm
• 3 of the top 4 independent contractors were law firms, with a total paid to them of over $1.6mm, including over $500k for employment related matters
• There are some reported transactions with related parties, but not major IMHO

Has anyone had any issues with the movie not playing at theaters? There's a bunch of videos on TikTok saying that theaters are claiming the movie is sold out but when people go, the theater is empty. Or things like the audio won't work, etc.

The creators made a "pay it forward" ticket system. Boosts sales numbers and lets people see the movie for free, but I bet theaters aren't set up to really pay it forward effectively and end up booking those seats as full. Not sure how it all works though, so I could be totally wrong about the cause of empty sold out theaters.

Edit to add, maybe the issues with audio you mentioned (and lights, AC, etc mentioned elsewhere) are that there are so many empty "sold out" showings that the theaters are just ignoring those rooms during off peak hours showings since they're mostly empty. Just a guess.

By your logic simply advocating for victim awareness is a pass for bad behavior? This guy was such a prominent figure of that organization they’re not going to remove him over some media bias.

If it took a movie to bring child trafficking to light you’ve got your head under a rock. There’s a dozen other orgs that do what OUR does. He was also removed from the Nazarene project, is that a bastion of liberal thought and mainstream media?

A common complaint about this movie is that it portrays human trafficking in a sensational light, different from how it most commonly is manifested in real life. Considering that common critique among human trafficking experts, it's telling that you would lump Andrew Tate, currently facing charges for rape and human trafficking, into this conversation as a victim.
