Thinking about picking up a leftover Colorado Cow Elk tag in a unit and season adjacent to where I am planning on hunting Wyoming General Elk...

Looking at harvest reports, success rates in both units are decent overall, but also have 10-14 hunting days per harvest. Admittedly I don't think I can get away for more than 6-7 days. Not planning on being terribly picky for my Wyoming General tag, but would prefer to get my first bull on the ground. I was thinking I would spend 4 days in Wyoming before the second rifle season started, then start hunting right on the border for cows in both/either state.

Yeah. $496 bucks for a "might get to hunt" tag is a little rough.

Guessing I won't pick one up. Just having a little "freezer worry". Only got 2 antelope and a hog last year. Have 2 sections of backstrap, one whole hog shoulder, and a little bit of trim leftover. It's sad opening up the freezer right now.

Yeah, $500 can buy a lot of frozen high end meat. My freezer is extremely sad. Only 4 packs of whitetail meat. I have 2 elk tags, a buck tag, and a bear tag. I'm hoping to capitalize on some big meat!

I have the Wyoming General tag, a Colorado Black Bear, and a NM Coues deer tag. As long as I beat 50% (2 out of 3) on those I'll be fine. I am fortunate that my wife's aunt has a property with a lot of hogs, so I usually try to help out with that around holidays we spend in South Texas, or I can make a 1000 mile round trip to get some more. Thinking about splitting a little deer lease with a buddy this year also, so I'll get a couple more opportunities.

I'll just hit Wyoming hard and get that one done to the best of my abilities. If I get done too early I'll chase Grouse and Trout for a couple days before heading home. I know a few spots in Colorado that aren't too far out of the way.

Well if it helps your decision, I picked up a bull tag in CO under this same premise! I already had a tag in another state and assuming I kill there I’ll go on to CO. I say go for it!
