I have days upon days of work in Wrangler hiking pants and the only problem I have with them is that I can’t wear them to my day job.

I also hunt in a black Ovis wool shirt I got from camofire for about $45

Beyond clothing has a full clothing system in all solid earth tone colors. Quality is top notch. In my opinion even a bit better than the top of the line hunting apparel brands. Cost is comparable to the expensive camo though.

Costco has some acceptable stuff from time to time. But they are always changing their products, so if you find something that you like, you might want to buy a few pairs.

If you can wear it, you can hunt in it. Cotton generally does no favors. $200 for a pair of pants makes you extra cool.

I feel like this disregards the material science behind lower friction coefficients and hydrophobic properties that are behind most things that are considered early season or the Chemisorption by reactive side amino acids that powers merino wool.

Now, what hell did you call me?!?

Throwing out science like that and seems like you should be telling us where to buy clothes.

Haha
I have never been one that likes when someone says "buy ____ instead of ____". I don't like that because the answer usually is not that black and white.
As far as the gibberish I was saying earlier.
What makes something "quick drying"
Why is it that merino wool is regarded as "anti bacterial" and as a result it can help with odor eliminating on some level.

So the first picture is supposed to show how polyester is smooth.

In the picture above, from the bottom left and right pictures we can see that one is "smooth" compared to the other.

This picture is a representation of how polyester and cotton react to water.

103561

By looking at this picture we can see how the molecular attraction that makes water want to stay "spherical" is conserved on a hydrophobic surface (phobic - having or involving an extreme or irrational fear of or aversion to something.)
But on the hydrophilic surface (philic - denoting a fondness for a specified thing) that same attraction is compromised.

This picture is showing the environment that water will be acting in. Take into consideration things like surface area and the phobic and philic properties of the materials.

Now imagine soaking these two pieces in water. Now that we have an understanding as to what properties cotton and polyester exhibit, we can start to understand why it is that water is evaporated off of poly and poly-blends much more efficiently. Due in part to the "fondness" that cotton has for water. The only thing we have not covered is what makes the water evaporate, this is where heat comes in.

Heat can be introduced in two ways, the first being in the typical "campfire example" that shows how convection works. For this we should think of how the air is heated up and in turn rises. This will happen off of our bodies. When we add weight and duration of exercise, it is fair to say that we will get hot. Second, will be from the sun. The radiation (heat) from the sun will help us evaporate that water that has been placed on the outside of our clothes.

The water getting sent to the surface should not be thought of as an "idealised" or "perfect" cycle. 100% of the water is not sent to the surface by the heat generated by our bodies + the hydrophobic properties of the poly. Let's just call it 20/80, where 20% is still on the near side of the material and in the material, 80% being on the surface.

Merino wool is a completely different beast altogether. First off, merino wool as a whole might not be "hydrophobic", it has been shown to be "hygroscopic" meaning that that strands are able to absorb and transport the water away. There are some parts of the wool fiber structure that are hydrophobic though. This plays a role in how bacterial odor is is slowed down because they do not have the moistest environment for them to work in. There is also an enzyme reaction that happens within the structure that breaks down other opportunities for the odor to occur.

This whole thing is me taking very complicated things and make it very simple and in that multiple things have been looked over and not considered like "thickness, treatments, layers etc.

I guess this is just another reason for me not to be studying but I think I should be telling people where to buy clothes. Instead I would rather tell someone what I know about how certain things work and let them make their own decisions. This way they can see how "if you wear it you can hunt in it" does not always mean that you should hunt in it.

Sounds like you already know what you need to make an educated decision.

Thanks for the pictures and explanation though, that does help me understand what is happening a little better.

Hahaha yes but sadly I don't have money to buy all the cool clothes out there. That's where the RokSlide community can come in and pitch in pieces of gear. Especially those that are not marketed towards hunters.

I recently bought a pair of kuhl pants that are quite comfortable that I plan to hunt in. Might be another option for clothing not directed at hunters but fills the niche at a good price point.
