Rant hunting clothing

Started my journey years ago with FL. At the time, it didn't work that well for me in the deer stand and I ended up wearing about 18 layers. I then switched to Sitka and I've had nothing but good luck from them. I really enjoy FL base layers but they have a shelf life for sure.

Since then I broke out into whatever I feel is the best piece for the job. Got a SG Grumman and it's the bomb, as well as quite a few different pairs of Kuiu pants and rain gear. I think it's a balance to find the right piece for your situation.

Kuiu has been the most inconsistent for me. I'm always between a large and XL top. It's a crap shoot depending on which piece actually fits me. Fortunately, we have this forum as a resource to see what runs small. I do also like that a lot of companies are listing more accurately the fit of the piece. Also you can see customer feedback on sizing.

Under Armour is/was like that. One jacket I have is a medium, another is a large, and the third is an XL.

Went into Stone Glacier’s store in Bozeman several times a few years back and the way they treated every customer in there was enough to convince me to never support them.

Hrmm... Well... since you're saying it seems harder for you to find more options for hunting clothing in Canada... Sounds like you're seeing a business opportunity for a market YOU could elect to dominate... if you found the right people to join you on that quest!

Something to think about.

Yep I was a Large Sitka. Then I had to start ordering tall (at least they had the option). Then the large got wide. So I went to medium talls if possible. Then the tall disappeared all together.

I’m 6’ 2” 190lbs, not a gym rat, but fit from work and outdoors. And I guess that’s not the typical North American anymore.
2 notes:
1) At some point one product manager can only deal with so many apparel styles. Different “collections” (western hunting vs whitetail vs waterfowl vs everyday, etc) managed by a separate product manager, made in different factories, possibly with a slightly different “target customer”, inevitably leads to slightly different patterns and fits. Many times thats even intentional. Its really hard, maybe not even possible, to avoid once a company reaches a certain size.
2) according to this link :
The average waist circumference is 40.5 inches, and the average height is 5 feet 7.5 inches”. Apparantly the average man in the US is 5’8” with a 40” waist. Regardless of whether thats exact, with that stat in mind does anyone think a company trying to fit “most people” is more profitable making clothing that only fits tall, skinny, athletic people, or will more people fit it if its a bit “rounder”? Inevitably, sizing data leads to sizing that doesn't fit as well if you are not “average sized”.
