I have done many and planning another at the age of 65. I consider my self lucky for someone growing up poor with a brother, sister and a single mom. Never made a lot of money but was good at saving. Started after high-school going to Canada fishing .at the age of 28 i did my 1st of many western hunts , it was a backpack into the bitterroot. At the age of 41 I started hunting alaska. What I'm getting at is if I can do it anyone can. The 1st thing is where and what ,that will determine when. On some hunts planning and saving may take up to 4 years but you must set the date . Next is with who I been lucky to have buddies from childhood that love to do what i do. I have done some solo but not the big adventures. Next is the cost ,getting there and back is biggest expense. Tags are next . Equipment will be next on the list. Now you have an idea of how long it will take you to be ready for that date. Now your ready to start thinking about it and doing research on areas , Equipment, access . Nearly everyday you will think about it and do something to be ready. It might be what tent ,what hotel or what will you will eat. You will have time to stare at maps and deam of routes. There is so much fun in planning ,then you would think. I am not well educated or good at putting anything in writing
But I am not shy about asking questions
Please add to this thread or ask anything. I have lived for my next adventure.

@sniper61 well, i turn 60 in a couple mos, been blessed with little as a kid but strung it into more as time has passed i sure have far more than I ever could deserve - had the same old 870 since i was a kid........and a marlin 22

hunted in various places due to where i lived not because i planned a trip until my first hog hunt a few yrs ago, did a second one

funds are limited, i am living out a dream i had as a kid to carry out my great uncles wish of hunting things when he retired, he got start on his hunting rifle to sporterize it so i have a couple things left to try to conquer in that quest...........he wanted to kill a moose - i got the elk and bear checked off when I lived in montana - white tail deer in missouri where i live now, hogs in oklahoma ( saved up a year for that ) not sure I will ever be able to afford or pull off the moose but its nice to dream and try to bring closure to something my ancestor cherished - its for you uncle dooley ( yes that was his name ) I never got to meet him he passed before i was born but my dad inherited the rifle half converted

a mulie, an antelope are something i could likely try and we on his list of things - i do not have an official list but as a hunter I am pretty sure most of the american species were on it, i do know some family members always said he wanted to get a moose and spoke of it many times

so what is your next trip you are planning for ?
