Snow on the peaks! 8/20/21

I hate the cold, I have all winter to be cold.......I need my Septembers to be warm and hopefully dry. That's when I see my best elk hunting.
Agree, I'd rather take a nap on the side of a hillside, sun shining, than same scenario with rain gear on. You can keep the rain, cool weather, etc. Give me blue bird typical CO September any day! The elk love it, and so do I.

Nice. The high in Durango was only 71 -much needed respite from the heatwave. That being said, it’s back to the high 80s next week. I’m ready for some cool air and shorter days -something that is incredibly energizing about that.

I’ll pass on the 75 degree days at 10k feet that feel like 90. Bugling for 30 minutes at first light and last light. I don’t go to the mountains to take naps. 30 degrees at sunrise, highs in the 50s keep the elk on their feet. Add in some good cloud cover at night to keep it nice and dark.

I can't wait till snowboard season is back but that can wait until after a few hunts are in the books :)

It would be a rare year for me to hunt elk at +10k, so the reality is 30-50 isn't a normal September for me. We all have different preferences for sure. I like stability, and blue bird days give me that in the areas I hunt. I don't care if that's 30 or 80. When I spot elk off in the distance, I pretty much know what the thermals are doing, not so when those fronts keep passing through. Whatever your preference, enjoy it, September comes and goes in a flash.

Cooled way down here in Oregon as well. Unfortunately it’s supposed to heat back up by next weekend for the opener, but still cooler than it has been. It’s been in the 90’s or over 100 degrees for most of the last month it seems like.

Im guessing the highs up around 6000 feet elevation will be around 75 degrees next weekend and lows in the mid 40’s. That’s fine weather for calling bedded bulls out of their beds.

when it never gets below 50-60 degrees at night, it’s seems like they won’t budge until after dark unless you step on them.

I shot my biggest OTC bull on a hot dry sunny day at 11,600 feet. My GPS said it was 75 degrees at 0930 in the morning. I had that bull screaming at 10am. On cold days I might as well stay in camp........nothing but silence. It's like that every year for me.......hot days = awesome, cold days = silence. A few years ago it was fairly cold from the middle of the month, then the last weekend of the season it got hot.....like 80 degrees. That weekend was nonstop with bulls for me.

I was in Glacier NP on Monday jumping in waterfalls and it was 86. By Tuesday the high was 46 and there were strong winds and blowing rain.
