Getting gear together for a 3rd season elk hunt in CO. Would you go with good ol’ tire chains or these things?

Not those for sure. Regular chains you just keep driving using your momentum those are like driving over a 2x4 with every rotation. Maybe if your using a mini van and only put them on to move 5' to get unstuck

As unlucky stated, those seem like a thing to use to get unstuck. Alot of times if you dont have your chains on and you get stuck, it can be a sob to get them on in order to get out. Those seem like they would work well to get you out and back on to snow pack to put chains on. Driving with them would be like going over a speed bump every 3 seconds lol

Makes sense. I’ve never had a need for chains, so I didn’t really think that all the way through I guess.

Good ol truck chains can be cut down and you will end up with a heavy set that you cannot break unless you try super hard. The new cam style are awesome and don't require snubbers. I had to cut about 12" out of them to fit my 315's I've run them on 285's as well. They can be found pretty cheap (50 a pair) if you look around.

many, well very many years ago, I had a set of chains similar to those. they were chains that strapped on like that. they were worthless. totally worthless. the straps froze up and came loose.

The biggest issue is your vehicle and what you can fit in there. Get the best system that you can fit - something is better than nothing for sure.

I think some of the guys have been trying to say this with regard to fit, but I want to make sure it is understood. If you haven't used chains, almost all new trucks are using IFS and that severely limits what if any chains can be used on the front. Most new trucks owners manuals say no chains on the front. Clearly, running 4 sets of chains are best, but be careful. Feel around the inside of your front tire. Many states have chain laws and I saw a guy in California a couple years ago chain up his front and when he started driving pieces of chain and not sure what else starting flying out from his front wheels.
