Quick question, what elevation do you guys stop worrying about snakes? Im going to be between 10500 & 12000 in SW CO, should I be worried about rattlers???

I never worry about them. But I think that rattle snakes can be as high as 9,000 feet. I've never seen one over 7,000, though. The problem is finding the snake that you dont see. There are rattle snakes in Colorado, but they aren't typically a problem. You would probably see more snakes hiking in the foothills close to Denver.

Well, "they" say that rattlesnakes don't go above 5,000 feet or so which is BS. I've seen them at around 7500 here in Idaho but they elevations that you are at, I would think you would be safe.

I've personally seen them at 8,000 ft in Golden Trout Wilderness here in California. I've heard they can be live in elevations at more than 10K. I think it would be wise to follow the common dos and don'ts in snake country. Basically watching where you step just to be safe.

Ive never really thought about snakes when in the mountains, never came across one up there. I will say I was stalking a buck bedded in some sage last year during the archery season in my wool socks...got with in a hundred yards of him when a dam rattler said hello and waved his rattler at me  Needless to say I didnt see the buck again after I was done jumping around and saying some choice words :D
