Smiths knife and sharpner 9.99 midway

Bit of a sharpening "purist" myself and I'm not a huge fan of that type of sharpener.

They tend to remove more metal than needed to put an edge on.

They do work. I have one and use it for some of my high use low quality blades.

These knives are perpetually $8, but i grab a couple every time I order from midway. They're actually really sharp and ergonomic. Nice for having laying around the garage, shed, in my camping kit, whatever.

Thanks, and I usually use a a smooth steel rod sharpner which is very old. Plan for this was to just keep it in the truck.

I have that exact same sharpener, i't nice to throw it in your pack or whatever to have somewhere you need it in the field or on a hunting trip etc.

That is (obviously) a very cheaply produced, made in China knife. 420 stainless is a low end knife steel. Its pretty soft, so fast to sharpen. But as a result it wont hold an edge and needs to be sharpened often. Those tungsten sharpeners are really horrible and very rough on the blade.

Its the sort of knife that will get you out of trouble if you have no alternative, but for me at last, it would be frustrating if it was the primary knife I was relying on.
