What’s everyone’s opinion on a 17 mach 2 for squirrels and rabbits? Something a little different but when it comes to rimfires i really like the 17’s over the 22’s. And how about winchester’s new 21 Sharps, whats everyones opinion on that?

It’s been said before but the .17 Mach 2 is IMO, the best tree squirrel cartridge ever made.

The .17 HMR is more versatile with the loads available but the .17 M2 is what I reach for if I really want to fill the freezer with edibles..

17's have worked fine for me for rabbits, would be totally fine grabbing one for squirrels.

21 Sharp is not something I'd go near until/if it gets a more robust following built up. The initial offerings from Winchester seem like they're lackluster in terms of accuracy, and they're pricey to boot. If they can get it to be appreciably more accurate than 22 and if they can get the cost down to where other rimfire rounds sit, then there will arguments to be made for it.

I enjoy my .17 HMR and think a .17 M2 would do good with squirrels also. I’m skeptical of the new .21 and wouldn’t be surprised it it wasn’t around in a few years.
