So I have some magnum powders I hardly use anymore: Staball hd, V560, h4831

When I finish up the last of my h380 what would I lose besides velocity if I just switched to the slow powders in an 22-250 under a 55vmax.

It’s a slow twist tikka that shoots 55gr bullets okay and keyholes 69 gr bullets so it’s not ever going to shoot heavies without another barrel. It’s just a matter of burning the powders I have. I won’t change the barrel until it’s shot out. I’m a cheap sob.

Sierra lists many slow burning powders for the 22-250 but primarily for heavies, the magnum powder works well for heavy bullets but you’ll likely end up with plumb full case and lower velocity before you hit pressure on something like 560, a more moderate powder like 4350, rl 16, 17 is better suited to you desires

Thanks for the response. I’m committing all my 4350 to my 6.5.

My Tikka can’t shoot the heavies so I’m stuck with 55gr vmax. I was hoping I could use up some of that magnum powder even if I was only getting .223 velocities. I kind of just want to burn that barrel out practicing and move on to a different cartridge. I’m not one to get something new until I use up what I have. Just the way I am.

Makes sense, you could certainly try it, just not optimum. Maybe get someone to trade for 4064. I love the 22-250, have a fast and a slow twist
