I picked up one of these at the end of the year to replace my 525C when I’m standing a bunch or using a heavy spotter. I can’t imagine anything is close to this beefy at this price. I’m really glad I called them and got this vs what I thought I wanted. It’s not ultralight but I won’t be looking to carry this in those situations.
Here’s it vs my 525c for anyone interested

Sorry, older post, and I don't have enough posts to PM anyone for details. I'm considering the Slik 824-CF. I had already purchased the Slik CF-734 before I saw deals on the 824. My only concern is that the 824 head/body will be significantly thicker than the 734 (less streamlined).

Are you still happy with the 824? Would it be possible to get an overall thickness measurement when collapsed?

Hey man, just bought one with the slik video head last month. Its definitely a beefy tripod but for a combination shooting and glassing i don't know if there anything that can touch the price point. The pan head is very good for essentially paying 20 dollars. size is about an inch wider than a 1.5L nalgene and 18" or so in length. Very very sturdy. If you already have a 734 I don't know its worth while unless you are looking for something to shoot off of.

I had purchased the 734 recently on sale before seeing the Camera Land clearance on the 824. The 734 is unused and returnable for cheap. The price on the 824 is inviting. I wasn't too concerned about the extra 8 Oz. Of weight if it adds stoutness with the thicker carbon legs. I was more concerned if it created a much larger footprint (girth) in my pack. I've never seen the Slik 700 series vs the 800 series in person. I've also been considering the Sirui ST-124. I already have the Sirui VA-5 head to put on whatever I choose.

I don't know the size of that bottle for a reference. By an chance could you measure the width of the head (diameter) at the top and width of the bottom too? Be a little harder for diameter since it is a triangle and not straight across. I'm just trying to get a true reference on how much wider in a closed position the 824 is compared to the 734. And your measure points so I could compare this 734?

This was the image I was trying to post earlier. I was going to see if you could measure it on a flat surface to get a measurement "both on the leg locks side and the head side" since I know the head size is the largest? I'm not too concerned about the foam pads. Just focusing on the hard parts. Just trying to get an idea on overall girth size of the 824 vs the 734. If you want to take pictures that would be great, but if just measuring is fine too. Anything to help me get a comparison on size between the 734 and 824.... Any help would be greatly appreciated.
