Sleeping bag help, wiggys? Quilt?

You won't want to carry a wiggys on your back. Having done so, I'd reccomend not. The problem is not just the weight, it's that the bag will eat up 2500ci of space in no time.

Good beater car camping bag though.

LOL, it's not THAT bad. I can get mine, even the zeros, down to a reasonable size. Weight, yeah. I don't like their weight, but their volume isn't that atrocious.

I will tell you this I was a bag man but never again since have gone to this quilt

Any drafts?? This will be my first backcountry camping/hunting trip. Dont want to be miserable! Do you think this combo will handle colder than what you experienced? The price looks pretty good and its the same insulation as Kifaru uses in the slickbag and I keep reading good things about it. The price being 50% is great.

yea I had draft when bag is open and just laying on me I slept in a mt smith lt ,no floor! but at night I strap up it comes with 2 straps that attach to pad. there are cinch straps at bottom and top so you can block everything out, mine is extra wide and a large size I am 6'3 200lbs, I had plenty of room to side sleep and keep pulled over my head

Just so I am beating a dead horse....
Does anybody have the Ultralight(20 degrees 3.25lb reg or ?? wide) and/or the superlight(0 degree 4lbs or 4.5lbs in wide) wiggy's? I would like to know how much you can compress them, compared to other synthetic bags. They come with a compression bag. How do they compare to the Eddie Bauer Ignite/Slick Bag/ etc. The weight seems right in line with other synthetic bags.
With me being new to backcountry camping/hunting, a quilt scares me a little and I hope to get a decent bag without spending $400.

I have the 0 degree superlite and it takes up 2500ci by my guess. It's a beast to try and compress and its heavy. They are quite a bit more than a slick (the older one). It's a beefy bag. You will not have fun carrying it, but it's warm. I personally wouldn't buy another one for backpacking.

Thanks,
What is the old saying "a smart man learns from his mistakes, but a wise man learns from others mistakes"?

I have several. Ultralight, Superlight 0*-20*. None of them compress much. They take up the entire stuff bag they come with, you'd be hard pressed to compress them any more. They're bulky but great bags for the money and like stated, a great option for wet weather when weight/bulk isn't an issue.

I am struggling to pull the trigger. EE covert, VIAM synthetic quilt, slick bag 20, mountain hardware.... the guys that could spend the $300 budget, give me your direction!

I live here in CO at about 10,000' (South Park) I use a Wiggy's 20 degree bag and have an over bag for when it is really cold. Here in CO it gets cold, cold ,cold. even in the summer. Yes the Wiggy's is heavy (4.65 lbs) but I got the right pack to carry it in (Kifaru Mtn. Warrior) I will never use a down bag here and the Wiggy's is top quality and keeps me very warm. I didn't spend $500 for a bag (it was $150) , but put the money into the Kifaru ultralight duplex frame and Mountain Warrior bag. Both these companies are CO based. I use a Thermarest prolite 4 pad. I can even put the Wiggy's overbag into my pack if if goes to -20F. I also went to the Army surplus store and bought Army issue thick poly underwear for $7 each for uppers and lowers. I tried Ultralight here in CO once, it really sucked and I was very cold even in Aug/Sep at 12,500'. My lesson learned was, Ultralight is for low information voters, here in CO. Just my opinion. Apology to those ultralighters who are offended. My pack weight is about 30 lbs. with food and water. If I want to lower my hiking weight, I can hit the Gym and lose 20 lbs.

I just bought that superlight 0 degree Wiggy's bag that is on sale with the extra compression sack. It doesn't compress a whole lot in that bag, but I will be using it mostly for winter camping and some of our truck based hunts. The liner and lamilite have a really nice feel, almost better than my bed at home.

I am leaning pretty hard towards VIAM 0 degrees quilt. Still may pick up a Wiggys for truck camping later. They sound pretty bulletproof and comfortable!
