Hi everyone,
Over the next year you will likely see many posts from me asking about gear and clothes as I prep for my 2020 hunt Aug 10-19 in the Brooks Range. I am a bit of a gear junkie but much of my stuff is specific to the needs of my September archery elk and deer hunting style.
Weight is important to me but not at the cost of function or reliability.
Let’s start with sleep systems.
I have a BA AXL insulated pad (15oz) EE 20 degree quilt (23 oz) and borah CF Bivy (4 oz). Thoughts and suggestions?

Do I need to go back to a bag for AK or do some of you guys run quilts? Is 20 degree rating enough? I have slept in this system in the low 20s and was fine with base layer and beanie on. I think the Bivy helps with a little more heat retention.

Thanks

I found bates’ threads about gear for the same area you are going to be helpful. If you are comfortable in the low 20’s in your quilt I don’t see why it wouldn’t work unless being wet when you go to bed changes things.

Sheep hunted the Brooks for many years,, conditions from 50s at night to teens. I Use a system similar to yours, you will be fine. I pack puffy jacket and pants for glassing and long sits, I wear these in my quilt on cold nights.
