Sleep System for your Dog?

I have just brought a fleece blanket for my dog to use, she likes it and I think it keeps her warmer (This is inside a tent though).

My dog hates having something noisy placed over her. She has a pretty bad reaction to crinkly plastic sounds. I can get her to lay down on bedding, but being covered up is akin to cat wrangling. For truck camping she uses an old US Army wool blanket on top of a foam pad.

I always bring a Zlite Sol pad with me along with my BA Qcore. The Zlite is nice to have during the day if I want to lay down in the shade and my GSP sleeps on it at night. I pack it in as it doesn't weigh much and easy to manage. I suppose you could cut one up to strap down to your dogs pack. I can't strap it to her pack as it would be shredded within the first 500 yards as she blasts through brush chasing every furry little woodland creature in sight.

I will say this, 1hoda, you did come across as a smart ass and there's plenty of other places on the web for you besides here if you're going to continue.

CrzyTrekker, while you started with a legit gripe about his post, I see you just throwing gas on the fire with overweight and can't keep up comments.

Let's all shake hands and move on. If we can't, then we lose two valuable members.

As far as the dog, I took one with me for over a decade on all my solo backcountry trips. Mentally they're as good as a fire. I carried a cover for my bag let her sleep there. She was about 19lbs

I do most of my mountain travelling solo, and my dog has been with me almost every step of the way. He used to carry his own gear, but I have started to do that for him as well. A couple times he even helped me pack out my deer. I had never really ever though about bringing him a sleep system, but now seeing the old guy hurting at the end of each day, I have been paying attention to this thread.

This is a good thread, I hope others keep posting their ideas.

I think I took my lab with me on every backcountry hiking trip the past two summers. I've been enjoying this thread and plan to get a bed of some type that he can carry in his pack with his food and other misc. items. I agree with Robby on his statement above. There are only a few people that I enjoy spending time with hiking and hunting, but I always enjoy the company of my dog.

I asked 1hoda to keep it civil, and threw very little gas, considering his smart ass approach. I've commented on a couple other threads about how this is a growing problem on Rokslide. Other guys have commented on it too, with no real response. Definitely not the first time we've seen this happen, and the leadership has been weak. Trying to appear magnanimous when leadership has been absent is not a useful technique.

I sent you a PM yesterday, asking you why there hasn't been more moderation on this site of late, and I'd now like to request a response to that PM, and you can make that public if you desire. I know a couple great guys, backcountry pros, that no longer come around Rokslide because these threads too often go sour. Good guys don't need the grief, I don't blame them, and am thinking about joining them elsewhere.

Circa 2012 when I joined Rokslide, this was a great site, full of highly competent backcountry travelers. Aron policed things when needed and led by example, but that is a thing of the past. The experience has become more watered down, for whatever reason, and I'd personally like to know if the current owners of this site have any intention of cleaning it up.

You certainly don't need to threaten to kick me off Rokslide; As I said to you in my PM yesterday, I am threatening to leave.

Mamba, I checked out the Kylmit web sit. The gear looks great! Had not heard of them. I'm tempted to get one of those ultralight pads for myself and my dog. Might be worth starting a stand-alone thread for the purpose of listing great little companies/products similar to Kylmit.

It was a public matter, so I handed it publicly. Too many guys try to use the PM option to share their side without any contest from the opposing side, so I usually don't handle these matters in PMs. Then it never turns into "he said, he said". It's not lack of leadership. It's the right way to do it.

You just seem not to like my answer.

If you elect to leave because this site isn't what you think it once was, that is up to you, but I hope you stay.

CrzyTrekker I think no matter how pampered a house dog is that dog will be happy just being out with its master. It'll sleep just fine on an old towel or the foot of your bag. Someone posted that a dog shouldn't pack any weight, I hope the folks at the Iditarod don't here about this. My sweet old Pyrenees packs here own gear and is happy outside under a tree unless it rains then she finds her way under my tarp.
