Sleep apnea mouth pieces

Good advice from the other dentist on here.

One brand to ask about is Panthera Dental Labs. It's a white medical-grade nylon and they have various models. My patients have had good success with them.

It's been mentioned before, but the interplay between dental benefits and your medical insurance gets confusing/frustrating fast. If you are willing to submit a claim to medical and you've had a sleep study, you could possibly get some reimbursement for your device. Some dental offices will help with medical claims, but they are few and far between.

My Dr said no problem as long as I did not put the butt directly on the implant. Mine is located between the skin and pectoral muscle similiar to a Pacemaker. It's about 2" away from where I place the butt of a rifle or shotgun. I've hunted 3 seasons with mine and no problemo.

I ran mine off of a large battery pack and solar charger last year in camp. Worked well enough. Never tried a mouthpiece but would be interested in seeing what everyone here says. It would sure as hell be a lot easier to tote around the mouthpiece but sleep is recovery and is exactly what you need on a trip.

My dental office won't give me a receipt with the medical insurance code, so I am out the 1900 for my device despite having a sleep study and prescription. Very annoying.

It because there is a difference between a CDT code (dental) and CPT codes (medical). Honestly, you can submit it yourself. Normally if medical insurance is filed, the charge is at least double what you paid due to write offs from medical insurance. You can get a medical claim form offline and fill it out and send it to your medical insurance company.

Looking to see what kind of luck people with sleep apnea are having with mouth pieces. I have a portable machine and battery but at 5 pounds it leaves me wishing for a lighter set up. Hoping I can find some help here. Thanks
My wife makes them, she is a tooth doctor and one of her areas of expertise is airway/ sleep apnea, I wear a MAD (mandibular adjustment device) works well for me. She just got a new laser for her office one of the things that is new is a treatment for mild apnea by treating soft tissue in your mouth/ throat with the laser, I will be a guinea pig I’m sure. I recommend treating your apnea as soon as you can, best to get ahead of the curve and not wreck your heart!

I have had a mouthguard style for over 20 years. I have over 30 stops per hour. I am a mouth breather because i have very restricted sinus passages. I couldnt use a CPAP. The mouthguard nearly fixed me completely. I have to have good rubberbands on it so it holds my mouth closed. I breathe through a slot in the front of it along with a little nose beathing i assume. a game changer for me.
Ever looked in to the nasal surgery? Septoplasty I think? 🤔 I have a complete blockage on one side, figured it might help I just need the down time for recovery, but I’ll likely get it done in not too long

I do have a cpap and use it regularly at home... I understand the recovery part of sleep and do intend to do my own testing at home with it... i am in no way shape or form trying to replace my cpap at home with a mouth piece. My intention is that if I feel like I get good enough sleep with the mouth piece, I would use it only in the mountains to save the 5+ pounds that my current travel setup weighs. Thanks to all the dentists/ medical professionals for the input!

I had one and still can't breathe through my nose well. Hurt like a mfer too.

I use a silent night mouth appliance I got thru my dentist and it definitely helps. When the bands start to get too loose or if I don’t have it my wife is on me.

It just keeps my jaw forward. It’s not the cheapest and they wear out but they work. Oh and the cost of the bands is a racket

I have not looked at the nasal surgery. my dentist is also a well rounded in the speep stuff. they also want me to do the laser treatment. I am pretty gfood with anything as long as my neuro says its OK.

ENT does the surgery, sounds awesome to be able to breathe through your nose easily

A company called daybreak makes a mouth piece device that ins will cover if you “fail” the sleep test. I have low amounts of disruptions per hour, but used it all fall and it worked great.
