I am looking to buy my first binoculars and trying to figure out if I should spend the "extra" money on the NL Pure 12x42? I've tried reading many reviews but it's still hard to know, the SLC 15x56 have a little further reach, but the NL Pure 12x42 have better clarity from what I gather.. I am not much of a hunter but have 100 acre property that I'd like to spent time glassing. Any varmint hunting would typically be under 100 yards. Appreciate the thoughts!

Definitely the 15x56. I own both mentioned and the 15’s have a substantial mag increase that’s noticeable and are in fact brighter.

100 acre property that you sometimes hunt? I wouldn’t buy either of those. I would look at something like the Sig IS Binos. If you want alpha glass go with the Swaro 8x42s

I'm not really a hunter but would like a good Bino for observation of the area. I tend to go overkill on my gear and Bino's are no exception. I am leaning to the NL 12x44 for portability and ease of use but welcome all opinions!!

I'm with Otter and would want 8x. Make mine the 8x40 SFL though. And add a tripod if you don't have one.

If there's money leftover vs getting the NL, I'd get a spotting scope unless you already have one.

Love the options....keep them coming! I'll check out the 8x40 SFL as I've not considered those. I tend to like a little more magnification.

The biggest benefit of NL vs the rest of the swaro line to me is the crazy clarity out to the edge and increase FOV, the lower the magnification, the more you benefit from that.

I have the 12’s and would not trade them for any optic, for the niche they fill with me, there is nothing better, but for 100acre property, I would probably go with the 8’s or 10’s, because you will get more benefit from the increased FoV

I spot so much stuff right on the edge of the sight picture with NL’s, that is what makes them special

The 15 slc is a great optic too, but way more niche, I would never want them as my primary bino

Can concur, I have the 12s and 14s. I rarely use the 14s honestly.

I've had both, still run the 15x56 HD's.

Some years ago I handed down the non HD 15's to my son. He recently had lasik surgery and can see like an eagle now, and he says he can definitely tell the difference.

It's worth it IMO.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I'm really leaning into the SL 12x42 as these seem to be a happy medium (albeit very expensive one!!)

I have the 14x NL and have ran them side by side with my buddy's SLC 15x. In my opinion, the NL beats the SLC in every way. I do agree with others that 12x is better if you are only going to have 1 pair of binos. I used to have the 12x EL and also preferred them over the 15x SLC.

Alright, so it seems that, for my use, the NL 12x44 might be the best option. I'll if I can find a sale or lightly used pair! Thanks for all the input!!

Yes you would find more game with the 15X than 12X!!! Of course that is from a tripod.

My setup is Swarovski 15X and 10 x 42 Leica rangefinders. I use the 15s for coues, pronghorn, javelina and elk hunts. The unit 17 NM where we hunt elk the 15s are very important in finding them.

I disagree, I have ran them both side by side, the 12s have better resolution and FOV and the resolution at distance increase makes up for the lesser power.

Let us know how you like it!
I’m looking hard at the 14x52 NL myself? I’ve thought about going with the 12x42 but I’m running a 8.5x42 EL for my ‘close range’ bino and I’m very happy.. I hunt and explore some very open country so I’m hoping the 14x52 will do the job of a 10x50 and 15x56 if that makes sense?

If you already have 8's, get the 14s you won't be disappointed.
