Well in 23 months I completed my NA sheep slam. What an awesome adventure to the NWT hunting in the Mackenzie mountains. After 5 plane legs I made it up with NWT Outfitters and that evening had a great home cooked meal before being flown out to the mountains. My guide Beau and I set up at the base of a mountain and waited the 12 hours before I could legally hunt. That morning started with a couple cups of coffee and a breakfast bar. We then headed up a ridge and 1000’ face to top a ridge to glass…. Within minutes we had 3 rams at 600+ yards and one of the rams was a dandy. After watching him for a while they worked towards us on the opposite mountain, where we got a solid 10 years on him. Now to make a move. We belly crawled down the ridge and started working to where they bedded. We were going to be in a perfect position at 200 yards, then the wind did its thing and blew right up to the three rams. One younger ram stood up and saw us so we quickly got into position. They took off down the creek and I got a glimpse at 330 yards. Made my adjustment on the nightforce, Beau ranged again and called 350 so I gave her two more clicks. The ram stopped broadside and I let the shot go, boom dead ram! Luckily he rolled about 20 yards onto the only big rock and stopped him from rolling all the way down the mountain. What an awesome hunt and I highly recommend hunting with the Lancasters. Congratulations! I leave for my first sheep hunt on the 27th (Dall in the Yukon). If you have any tips or gear I need to get, please let me know. Thanks!
