Having a hard time deciding on a jacket for newfoundland moose. I will be there at the end of September/beginning of October. I'm sure I'm overthinking thinking this, but feel like I'm spinning my wheels. I've looked at other people's packing lists and have researched old threads but haven't been able to decide on a jacket yet.

I've got the Kuiu Yukon jacket and pants, an Under Armor ridge reaper puffy parka and pants, and an Eddie Bauer first ascent puffy to layer with.

Part of me thinks that I should just use the Yukon as a jacket, but I still wanted a separate jacket to keep/wear when it's not raining. I've been looking at the Kuiu Guide Pro, Mountain Pro, and Axis Hybrid. I'm leaning towards the Mountain Pro because it's windproof and I feel like that's going to be the most important factor.

If anyone has used one and can give me their opinion, I'd appreciate it.

i do not know how confortable you are with cold but i will take juste one jacket for rain protection a puffy and anything else should be avoided, what temperatures will need to wear two puffys unless i misunderstood your approach. on a side note never hunted on the rock but got few fall seasons looking for caribou as a guide on the quebec northern area and it was wet ... never dreamt to use any goretexy clothing there especially when i was on the boat ...

The last time I hunted New Foundland I used a Sitka Hudson jacket with a Sitka Duck Oven under it, when we got up in the morning it was cold, by noon it was beach weather I shed a lot of cloths. We were hunting out of an Argo and stalking game once we saw it. My caribou stalk was 1700 yards.
It rained lightly about 3 minutes on two different days.

When I went to New Foundland in 2015 it rained all six days, from light mist to sideways rain. I used a Columbia Gore-Tex jacket and pants, I had them 20 plus years, I have outgrown and destroyed them hunting. Wish I could buy the same pair again! Only draw back is they were noisy.

For years I used my Sitka rain jacket as my general wind jacket, worked fine Last year I also brought a jetstream jacket for dryer days.

Any of those combinations will work. I took the Kuiu Guide Pro first time to Newfoundland. The second timw the Axis Hybrid. Both times I brought the Yukon TR jacket and pants along. To cut weight the Yukon set along with a puffy and the Axis Hybrid vest would work well. I went that combination in the Alaska tundra (similar weather) and found that combination worked great. Although I did wish I had the Guide Pro at times.

That said this year Caribou hunting along the Manitoba/Nunavik border I am going a bit different. Kuiu Guide Pro, Outdoor Vitals puffy, Chugach TR rain jacket and pants, Axis hybrid vest, Outdoor Vitals hoody. Depending on the outlook for the day I will make adjustments.
