Would anyone hesitate to use a SL 5 tent in Colorado for 2nd or 3rd Rifle season due to possibility of high elevation snow?

I can't speak to Colorado rifle seasons, but have used the SL-5 in fairly rugged conditions a couple times. It's pretty drafty for snow weather, and is tough to stake and guy out for snow loads. Doable with care, but not the best four-season tent. If it's only a "possibility" then you are probably ok. If it un-heated, then there warmth advantages to true double wall tent

This night we got about 4" of snow, and the tent sagged a significant amount, and the center pole (non-GL) partially sank/collapsed. Bit of a learning curve on my part on how to get them set for snow.

This camp was on about 4' of snowpack, and we ended up cutting a log to bury in the snow and put the center pole on, and burying other logs to act as deadmen for the guy outs. Managed a tight pitch, but it took some work.

That help?

Yes that is good info. Which double wall tent would you recommend? Because I was also planning on using the SL5 next Sept2015 for a backcountry hiking trip to Denali Nat Park and then finish off the trip with a Blacktail deer hunt on either Kodiak or Prince of Wales island.
