SKLTN or Pierce?

I'm building a 7-6.5 PRCW as my new mountain rig. I'd like a lighter action but actually want the gun to finish a half pound heavier than the Christensen Classic II I've carried the last 10 years. I'm moving to Alaska so feeding has to be flawless in case of brown bear issue. Other than that I'm more performance driven, can you build a consistent sub .5" rifle on a SKLTN? I like them both but the SKLTN is pretty sexy resembling the Gunwerks actions? The Pierce has always had my interest because they are only 3 hours away in Michigan and I've heard they are very straight. Not that it has any bearing on the action, the heaviest 20" Bartlein CF barrel and Peak 44 Bastion will round out the major components.

Check out the Falkor LW7 if feeding is your primary concern, and they are super light as well. The first time I used one I kept double checking to make sure it picked up a round because it fed so insanely smooth. I have 3 of them now and still grin every time I push a round into the chamber.

Of the two, SKLTN for me. I own both and am not overly impressed with the Pierce. I have had a couple quality control issues with it. The SKLTN's have ran smooth for me.

I'll check it out

I’ve had Pierce and SKLTN titanium’s. I prefer the SKLTN. Have heard great things about the Falkor mentioned above as well. It’s a great time to be a consumer in the action space. Lots of fantastic options.

The Falkor looks like a lightly modified and rebranded Impact Precision action. In my PRS rifle the Impact feeds slick and true every time, but I avoided them because I had some questions and they do not answer Phones, emails, FB messages or carrier Pidgeon, ever.......... I'm not sure it can be because the Falkor is about $300 less.

But yes, lots of options today.

I don't think there is any relation between the two. Rem 700 footprint actions tend to be similar to eachother. Falkor answers emails very quick, I've asked them many questions via email.

I realize this thread is a few months old now . A gentleman had sent me a quick vid of his skltn with the opening and closing of the bolt, looked really smooth. on the other hand if building short action I believe that the Pierce has the extended cutout that would allow the use of UM XL magazines ti seat longer if the barrel is throated for that.

I'm curious about you guys input on the Pierce actions. The shadow looked interesting to me as a basis for NRL/PRS sportsman setup. I know Ryan Pierce (of piercision rifles) has posted about them being straight with solid ignition and timing. He seems pretty focused on those issues as they apply to absolute precision with maybe less emphasis on smoothness of operation and how they run dirty.

Curious what quality control issues you experienced @Shooter264 ?

I'm not interested in anything ti so not sure if your experience with them would apply @6.5x284?

I had the bolt release split and fall off when cycling the bolt the hole that the pin goes in was way oversized and the wall around it was less than .010” thick. I had a burr on the boltface that stuck up and was nitrided over so had I not caught that it wouldn’t have headspaced correctly. I don’t like that I had to notch the feed ramp so it would accept 2.980” hawkins mags. The spacing on the pic rail is different than other SA so you can’t pull a scope off one gun and put it on a Pierce. Those are the few I can remember but one was enough for me. Don’t think I will purchase another one
