sketchup for design program

Depends how complex you are doing. If you're modeling a solid object in detail then something like fusion360 is nice (has a learning curve to it). But it wouldn't be my choice for doing a 2D drawing or such.

I use:

- SketchUp for general 3D modeling work like drawing up a shed.

- Fusion360 and Onshape for 3D work destined for 3D printing. They both do the same thing but work in different ways and I learned them at different times so I never fully switched to just one or the other.

- QCad for nearly all 2D work like floor plans and elevations.

- Figma for "quick" 2D work where CAD type tools/accuracy aren't needed, like a Web or mobile app screen layout, laying out furniture on a floor plan, etc. It's great if your goal is "I just want to drop a rectangle the size of my couch into a room to see how much space I have left."

I use Sketchup, but a guy we use to do more in-depth work uses Cadworks and it produces really nice models for houses. A lot of the Architects use Revit.

I've found Rhino3D to be the most intuitive. But, overkill for 2D patterns.
