I will have to check to see the exact model of the SKB case we have used but it might be bigger even as we have put two bows in it. We haven't been hassled about the size at all. We have been on numerous flights to Alaska with many random checked items from coolers to gun/bow cases to XL duffel bags to fishing rod tubes. Many of them are right in that gray area with size and we try to max out the allowable weight for each item too. Very rarely do they even pull out the tape measure to check exact sizes and even then it is fairly subjective.

The biggest thing I have found is to have a upbeat and polite attitude when dealing with the person at the ticket counter. Engaging them in a nice conversation usually helps things along and they aren't looking at every detail like they might if you were being a jerk to them.

Brock,

I have been traveling all with the SKB 4217 case with bow and rifle both in it or just bow. I have yet to have been charged oversize fees. Traveled about a half dozen times with it last year and never Charged..

I also was never charged for oversized using the double but they do weigh it every time so keep it under the 50 lbs. I usually pack mine full of stuff on the flight home to help with baggage fees when flying meat home.

Should be fine. I have flown with the skb parallel limb case and a pelican 1750 a bunch of times and never been charged extra. Mostly southwest is what I fly though when hunting

I have never been charged or even threatened with an oversized charge, and I have flown with a bow case easily 20+ times.

I have a case that size, which I then put in a giant duffle and stuff extra clothes, boots, etc around it. I have yet to be charged.

I have not used that case but have logged well over 100,000 air miles with various bow cases and have NEVER been charged extra. Not saying they won't hit you as the rules seem to be changing all the time, but so far, so good.

Bringing this back up. Flew with it last weekend to AZ. Case did awesome. Everything was good to go. It was a little dinged up on the outside but everything was fine on the inside. No extra fee was charged either way.

A buddy of mine got hit recently with his first ever bow case surcharge flying Delta out of Sacramento after the Redding tournament for $100 FYI.
