I need opinions on outter wear clothing. This is not for western hunting. It is simply to pack in my backpack, walk 1/2-1mile from the truck climb a tree and hunt out of my saddle or hunt off the ground. Temps swing can be anything from 18-55 degrees.
The current sets I have is:
- Sitka Stratus
- Sitka Fanatic
The thing I like about the stratus: light weight and can wear it in warmer weather (mid 50s) and not sweat your butt off. The things I dislike, is it is pointless to me as an outter layer piece due to the minimal insulation.
The thing I love about the Fanatic is I need very minimal layers. Living in NW FL, I normally deal with temps in the upper 60-70s for the majority of hunting season with a few cold fronts that drop into the teens in the morning. Also some of my hunting will lead me into the Appalachian Mountains when I can get away from work. So when I deal with a 30-40 degree temp swing in a night, I get cold fast. Thats why I love the Fanatic. The thing I hate about it is the bulk and the cross zipper for saddle hunting.
So I am trying to find a compromise that is between the stratus and the Fanatic. Something that can offer warmth, maybe close to the Fanatic but not be near as bulky. Being quiet is a plus. I've looked at the Kuiu Proximity and the First Lite set (I think it is the core set I could be wrong). What is everyone's thoughts or if you could come up with a better outter layer bid/jacket that would meet the criteria of less bulk than a Fanatic but offer better warmth than the stratus, that would be greatly appreciated.
