Looking to replace the Mountain Hardwear Kor Airshell warm as it was irritating the back of my neck due to the mesh backing not the actual octa loft.

Anyone had the opportunity to try them both? MDWI and Peloton?

Which one provide better wind protection?

Looking for that one unicorn do it all fleece killer, as normal fleece is bad at wind protection.

It would be used stand alone or went it get much colder under a puffy jacket.

Others I tried but dint like much because they felt too puffy, Kuiu Kenai, SG Cirque, Montbell UL Thermawrap, North Face Ventrix L3 was my favorite from this insulated active layers.

Also considering the New Montbell EX Light Thermawrap parka as it supposed to be much thinner with only 25g insulation but no review other than Japanese ones.

The 240 Peleton is my favorite single piece.

The 240 on its own is not that warm. However it does block the wind exceptionally well thus I find it keeps me comfortable in a wide range of conditions. Short of hard exertion, I never have that clammy, damp skin feel. I recently have been wearing a 97 Peleton under the 240 with a very thin base layer and that works surprisingly well. The 97 adds insulation.

Temperature alone is insufficient at describing where a piece works. Add wind, and the range of temps where a piece maintains comfort narrows significantly. I find the 240 with a very thin base layer widens the range of conditions for my various layering systems.

My MDWi is one of my favorite pieces, and it has replaced all fleeces for me for mountain hunting. Well, except for a Peloton 97. A super light merino t-shirt, peloton 97 hoodie, MDWi, a puffy, and a light rain shell have covered me for 100% of everything the last few years for my torso. I have tried to like the Peloton 240 but IMO it didn't provide enough warmth to weight active or inactive. The Peloton 97 is better at everything it tries to do and the MDWi is the bees knees for active insulation.

What Sitka MDWi? Is that a specific piece?

Thanks. Appears similar to the Arcteryx Atom? I have the Arcteryx LEAF (former) version of the Atom. Goes with a 240 like peanut butter and jelly.

Are you fairly active when hunting? Not hunting extreme cold? I picked up an Outdoor Research Deviator hoodie. Mapped insulation similar to octa and grid fleece in other areas. Face fabric is a soft not loud wind resistant layer. It has a better temperature range and more breathable than the 240 or 97 from kuiu. Also little less warm than kenai but not as puffy.

I was hoping for more people that have tried them both.
I read other older post, other mentioning the 240 dint provide any wind protection, but I guess it still should be much better than regular grid fleeces.

I hope the DWR and fabric 30D combo is way better than the DWR 20D fabric of the Kelvin Aerolite that thin wet out fast I dont get wet becuase I take cover or layer over it.

But is what I imagine that it should provide better wind protection over the 240.
I would get the MDWI now have to figure out if Lead or Black.
How was the fit did you have to size up?

if it fit like the Kelvin Aerolite then I would get L as it fit snug around the waist but if is any slimmer then I would have to get XL

It would be for errands around town, to replace the Costco grid fleece that is super bad when the wind pick up anywhere from 45-60F.
I would prefer a full coverage jacket, but that style sure look good for when hiking with a backpack.

I just came across this one for $100

75g Primaloft Active EVOLVE but reviews mention no EVOLVE the length of the underarm to the pit area, I probably would have got it it they came in other colors.

I wear an XL in the Peloton 240 but a L in the MDWi and Sitka Ambient pieces.

I just picked up a second Costco gerry grid fleece on ebay (you can still find them there) they are sneaky good for the price

I was underwhelmed by the 240. seemed like more a softshell than an insulating layer imo. ambient more insulating but then you lose the windstopping power. I want to try the 200 peloton, it seems more like a traditional fleece

I still have two of those Gerry fleeces going strong. I think the 240 more robust and wind resistant than those but at $140 more? Peloton 200 was ok, nothing really special but the 97 being crazy lightweight and just about as warm is nice, it also layered better imo. Ambient didn’t last long with me, nice stuff but as with all the other options in this thread it’s not mapped and I think that’s the key to an active insulation jacket.
