Sitka ascent vs kuiu kutana stretch pants

Anybody have experience with both these pants? I’m looking for a new early season pant and can’t decide between these two.

I am in the same boat and like both of these. I like side zips and ability to add knee pads which neither have both options. This is why I just ordered Stone Glacier lite pants to try. If I don't like them I will prolly move onto the KUIU katana. Once sitka puts side zips on all thier pants it will be money.

Love my ascent pants- light, great at moisture wicking and dry out extremely quickly. No experience with the kuius

i really like the regular DH pants, but i couldnt find a proper fit for the lites. And were baggier than i like

When it is is warm to hot out I favor the Ascent pants. Despite the lack of leg zips I am just more comfortable in the heat. The fabric seems to breathe better and the 4 way stretch and ability to add knee pads are both a bonus.

In more moderate to cool temps I like the ability of the Kutana Stretch's leg zips to dump heat due to exertion. Both are great pants and remarkably durable for their light weight.

I tried both and prefer the Kutana's. Hip vents were a big factor, and in my opinion the Kutana fabric is a little more quiet. They seem to be pretty durable (after 2 seasons of moderate use).

In Sitka I have a pair of Travese pants and really like those as well. If they had hip vents, they would probably be close to perfect for me. Might be worth a look.

Either pair have been good into the high 70s. I have been in mid 20s with a layer underneath and been very comfortable while active. Very versatile in my opinion.

No experience with the kuiu but have the Sitka. I much prefer the traverse pant to current ascent pants. The ascents are just too light for the vast majority of the hunting I do. The traverse are very similar to previous generation ascents and also cheaper

I'm not a fan on the 2 pairs of Katana's I have. I sure dont feel any stretch. I can't think of a time I'd wear then over the Attacks even in September. I really like my Ascent pants. Best lightweight pant in my opinion if they'd just include a hip vent.

My son has the Ascent pants, and they have been really good early to mid-season pants for him and are his main hunting pants. I have the Kutanas, and really like them for the same time period. They are definitely tough, and I'm a fan. I think the Ascents are more breathable, but the Kutanas are tougher and have the ventilation.

My ascent pants have spots for knee pads, I regularly switch them between my mountain pant. They just don’t come with the knee pads.

I have pretty much every style of pants kuiu makes, the kutanas are awesome I think and the most comfortable just to wear around period, attacks are ok not near as comfy to me, for when it’s cooler outside the axis hybrids are really comfortable and soft on the the inside. For when it’s cold the guide pants are nice and pretty close to the axis pants just a little a little heavier. Tiburons are nice when it’s real warm out.

I’m on season four with my Ascents- I like the fit, they breathe well, dry fast and are pretty darn durable for a lighter fabric.

I’ve managed to punch a few holes in them here and there, but still going strong.

Would they be even better with side zip venting- yes they would

In fairness I’ve never tried the Kutanas, but the Ascents are so good, not sure if I ever will.

Not sure what happened to the fit with Kuiu but if you have athletic legs they might not fit. I have to upsize my waist 4 inches now before Kuiu will fit comfortably around my legs. I don’t want all that bunched up material on my waist line. I didn’t have to do that before with Kuiu. I sold my Kutanas because of the skinny jean fit. 6’-4” 215 lbs. with a 35” waist.

The Kutana’s are the skinniest jean that Kuiu makes. Attack and Tiburon are definitely looser in the legs with the Tiburon a touch looser than the Attack. For an average size person like me the Kutana’s aren’t too skinny. I prefer my Tiburon’s but do wear the Kutana’s often.

I currently have both pairs. I don’t wear the Kutana much due to them being too tight in the thighs. I tend to favour an athletic slimmer fit but it takes a day or two of wear before they become bearable. I also don’t think they have much stretch at all. The fabric seems to be durable and I like everything else about them.
The Ascents are awesome and probably the best all around hot weather pants I have tried. Lighter, more breathable and have great stretch. I honestly can’t say anything bad about them.

Yes the tiburons are quite a bit looser than the attacks and kutanas, I’m actually wearing a pair of tiburons right now, kutanas fit me well I’m about 5’10” 170 with a 32 waist

I like the ascent pants and don't see a need for hip zips on them. The only thing I dislike is the placement of the thigh pockets.

Just got the SG lite pants in and after trying them on they are very high quality. Definitely looser fit then I’m used to. This is the opposite of skinny jeans which I like. They do seem a bit noises then my prana pants. I don’t think the noise thing is that big of a deal though. The waist is awesome as I really got the fit perfect and can see that I won’t need a belt which is nice when wearing a pack. The pockets are awesome on these probably my favorite so far.

Kutanas are durable. More durable than the ascent. If the fit works for you, its a long-lasting early season pant. I agree on the comment that they are skinnier fitting in the thigh.

Outdoor Vitals makes a pant that is the same fabric as the Kutanas. I haven’t tried it, but the fit could be a little more generous if people are interested in that.

Curios to know if anyone has experience with the Equinox Guard pants and how they'd compare to these two for hot weather.
