One of the barklow videos he has an EVII version of the jacket so my guess is it’s also going to replace the Celsius midi which remains on sale and is likely discontinued.
Active and non active insulation, different uses in the garments

I’m not sure… he’s always been a proponent of active insulation for the hike in and static insulation over the top. Plus the midi lists Primaloft Silver Active Insulation.

The better stretch and weight on this piece I would love it it replaced the kelvin active. Also comes in black for my regular activities, might replace even replace my Atom LT. Just need some more real reviews on how well it dries when it gets wet

I noticed the EVII too. This is what Sitka had to say about it..

From the description and construction, the properties seems similar to Buffalo Systems Special 6 shirt which has been a favorite with Highland farmers and soldiers for close to 30 years now

@THLR do you have this shirt? Seems interesting, but I’m skeptical. What temp ranges and moisture levels does it work well in? If it’s too cold, do you ditch it for a more traditional layering system, or put a base on underneath?

Never really loved or woremy kelvin active jacket. I’d like to see one of these in the wild but I keep going back to the old kelvin lite stuff I have.

No I don't have it, but I have noticed that the British are fond of the same insulation principle for "everyday outdoorwork". They wear it over baselayer in winter/autumn and I see a fair amount of them on the farmers.

I would expect the Sitka variation to provide similar function/ comfort.
These two jackets are at very different pricepoints, farmers/prohunters seems to put function over cool...

Personally I wear wool baselayer - thin windbreaker + add whatever needed. Very wet/windy/cold where I live.

In this film my companion wears it in winter under his overwhites

Anyone have a sense of how wind resistant the piece is? Imagine not much since it is designed to be breathable. Right now for mid/late sept hunts I am running ascent shirt, apex hoodie, jetstream, kelvin lite puffy and then my rain gear. Would love to get rid of a piece to shed some weight like dumping the jetstream and apex hoodie in favor of the ambient jacket but maybe I should just sit tight.
I tend to run on the cooler side and temps can get down to 20s early AM to occasionally 80s in afternoon where I’m usually hunting in sept.

It seems to me that sitka has a TON of overlap in their mid-weight insulation line. Kelvin active, kelvin aerolite, now this. A thorough comparison of all of these pieces is needed. Also, what is the life expectancy of this poly fill? We know they are not all created equal.

edit: I guess they are discontinuing the kelvin active.

After watching the video, barklow basically describes using this as I do a gridfleece hoody. I already think a gridfleece hoody vents and dries well, but it doesn't shed external moisture like this would.

Is this just a fancy gridfleece?

Yes this is very technical mid layer that should replace fleece mid layers. Drys faster, is lighter, and is warmer.

In convo with sitka yeaterday, they said the ambient collection will replace the traverse cold weather hoody, the gradient hoody, the celcius midi, and equinox hoody.
The guy i was talking with said there is no real reason to get both hoody and jacket, as they are essentially the same but one being heavier than the other makes the hoody easier to layer over too.
He did say he got the hoody and will use it for all his deer and elk hunts this year.

Just fyi.

I’ve always wondered about this with sitka… on one hand, they’ve got 100 options for mid layers that potentially move extra product because people (like me) have 30 midlayers. But on the other hand it’s a ton of extra inventory etc.

There's a million reviews on the Buffalo shirt. It's been proven to work all over the world. Plenty of user reviews out on it and a lot of YouTube videos.

This is interesting because the Gradient and Traverse are so much heavier/warmer than this line is on paper. Maybe they weren’t great sellers

Just noticed they have this jacket listed at 18oz and the Kelvin Active Jacket is 13.77.....4oz is quite a big jump, my assumption is it doesn't pack down nicely.....
