Watches are such a wonderful rabbit hole. For me a good quality watch is well worth the investment, and I don’t mean thousands. A few hundred can get you into a good watch. I generally recommend a dive watch. They have large illuminated easy to see markers, the timing bezel is very useful in the field, and they are water / blood proof. They also work for the rest of life.

There are tons of great watches out there. If you find a style you like feel free to PM me. I am happy always happy to chat about watches.

I have some sort of an issue with quartz watches and they never work long on my wrist. For everyday I use a Meistersinger M2 but the hands are not luminous. As a hunting watch I have a Seiko 5. Not a bunch of things I don't need and the luminosity is good.
I was gonna suggest a Seiko 5.

I like citizen eco drive solar. They seem to have worked the kinks out of solar watches more than other brands. Been wearing a ~$250 titanium dive watch 24/7 for a couple years straight.

Simple analog dials are somewhat readable without illumination, and are more readable than digital with middle-of-night foggy sleep eyes.

Also, I have found in the past that any analog watch where the crystal sits higher than the rest of the watch is an order of magnitude easier to damage than having even a millimeter or two of protection. This is one thing that makes digitals so much more damage-resistant in my opinion. It's sometimes hard to find this in analog watches. The high bezel on the citizen I wear is scratched up but it has protected the crystal well.
