About 30 years ago I was fly fishing one evening and two small raccoons came down to the river's edge to get a drink. I figured "what the heck" and cast over at them. A 5wt wasn't enough even for a small raccoon.

I had not read that but having read it now, I can sort of get the visual, lol. I'm guessing similar to my uncle's buddy that thought or rather didnt thought enough that gigging a possum would be a good idea. They can get off the gig and run up the pole with bad intentions. And when you are either too drunk or not smart enough to toss the gig in the river, you get to go see the fine folks at the ER.
