SilencerCo Scythe Ti failures

I just added a yes vote, unfortunately.

300WM, 24” barrel
215 Bergers at just over 2800 fps with N568
Was the 10th shot of the day (plus 8 thru a 6.5PRC)
No pressure signs on brass
It separated at 2 places, so turned into a 3 piece suppressor.

Fixed and back to my house in a week. I’m hoping the fixes are getting better welds.

This might be the first blown into 3 pieces Scythe we’ve seen. My anxiety level raises every time I see a new post on this thread. At least the repair was quick…

People can say what they want and have their own opinion. But I would never buy one now. And I REALLY wanted one. This is ridiculous that they havnt properly address this issue.

Mine also blew in three peices. Exact same as photo above. Spent a considerable amount of time looking for my end cap.

Taking mine to the range this afternoon, maybe today's the day! I also use this can on the wife's prs rifle(perhaps I should rethink that idea)

Yeah it would be encouraging if there was a newly tweaked design and they acknowledged so AND then do the right thing and let everyone else who owns one know that there has been a redesign.

Completely different story, but similar situation. I had an early production 2009 WRX hatchback and was a regular on one of the WRX forums. Guys were blowing up engines, reporting it and were eventually able to narrow it down to a certain build date range. As would be my luck, mine fell in that build date range and I felt I was sitting on what amounted to a time bomb. Sure enough my engine eventually blew. Subaru was great in repairing (actually they sent a full long block—new turbo, the whole works), BUT I'm sure they had the same information as we did (and probably more as was discovered to be a mistake during the manufacturing process) and could have notified the owners instead of waiting for the engines to blow

Seems like it’s been silencerco just discontinuing product. Harvester evo is gone now. Scythe already has the partially stainless steel iteration out.

Though I have considered in the past I wouldn’t buy one of their products seeing what we are here. It’s discouraging, not normal, and sad to see as many failing as there are with a fairly small group of people.

Agreed. There is not enough size and weight difference between this suppressor and a nomad ti xc or raptor 8 that I'd buy one of these again, unless they make a public statement acknowledging the problem and that's it's fixed

Its possible guys on here shoot at a higher volume than other samples? We're seeing what a 12-13% failure rate, nation wide it might be closer to 2? But inevitably it'll be higher with enough duty cycle. They either need to redesign with thicker side walls/better welds, or make a new unit all together. With the continual failures over time, they cannot really discontinue the suppressor as they're going to have to keep fixing with available parts.

I agree. I always thought of Silencer Co as a lower end company that I would have never given a second look. All they hype about the Scythe mad meme buy one and now I have a silencer that can potentially have issues. There is a lot to like about the Scythe But....when the company won't even admit there's an issue even with demonstrated 10% failure rates, that just sucks.

I wish I'd just bought a 2nd TBAC ultra 7 or something else. I really enjoy my Scythe but I don't really trust it, Even using them strictly on smaller cartridges like 6.5 Creedmoor docent seem to be a solution.

I think guys on here are shooting a high percentage of the magnum usage. But it’s also marketed as no barrel length restrictions.

I don’t think Iv seen anything I’d consider unreasonable as far as usage on here when it comes to short barreled magnums


It’s also a fairly new product.

Well mine failed today, so I changed my vote to yes.

1. Cartridge: .300 PRC (approximately 150 rounds total through this can.)
2. Barrel Length: 22”
3. Factory Ammo
4: Ammo: Hornady Precision Hunter 212-grain ELD-X
5. Weld failure occured after 30 rounds of factory 212gr .300 PRC. I was shooting single and 2 shots at 1390yds at the edge of a canyon, had just hit steel and my next shot went slightly low and way left. I went to make sure my scope was level, and to make sure the can was tight, which it was, when I noticed the front half of the can was missing. I searched for the front half for over 2hrs but couldn’t find it. *I had switched the front ported end cap out with the solid bravo titanium front end cap and this was the second outing with that front end cap installed*

It would be hard for me to believe anyone reading this thread that they still has a Scythe Ti on their list of wanted suppressors

Their performance in suppressing sound, combined with a such a lightweight and compact package put them in a clear lead for what I was looking in a suppressor. I'm sure glad I stumbled onto this thread before spending my money and I really sympathize with the folks that have thad their cans fail

I've not counted them up, but that is at least 2 of the failures at this point.

Add in the 2 second failures, and you are at over a 4% failure rate that excludes people hunting this thread down to report failures.

While I didn’t provide a no vote, I was aware of this thread for several weeks before my Scythe failed. I didn’t seek it out because of the failure. For my use and desires, the Scythe is the ultimate suppressor. I am very bummed about its failure and not sure I can get back to being confident in it. I hope I do though.

Nomad Ti XC for a hair longer and hardly any to zero difference in weight (~9oz).

There have not been issues with that. As long as the serialized back half is returned they'll repair it and send it back.

They told me “It’s ok IF you REALLY can’t find it, but if you can find it that would be best. However as long as you have the part that has the serial number, we can work with that.”
