SilencerCo Scythe Ti failures

Scythe Ti owners: Have you had a Scythe Ti catastrophic failure?

I'm still not passing judgement. Maybe they can make this right. Maybe they can convince me that they have a solution. I'm open to that. Will I get back a can with obviously better welds? I don't know. I'm irritated that this happened twice and without some notable difference from last time, I'll never trust it again, but I'm not ready to give up yet. They treated me right the first time and I understand that crap can happen. The truth is, there isn't a can that is this light and works this well for the money so I want it to work. I'll see what happens

I’m absolutely passing judgement on SiCo, I still hope though that they address the issue or at a minimum address it.

I really like my scythe, it is fairly quiet, light, simple etc but I still don’t really trust it. I tried to make mine fail and it didn’t but that dosent mean it won’t.

It is frustrating to see failures happening on 6.5 creedmoor rifles though, I felt better when it was just happening to magnums but that’s not really the case. Maybe it’s just a 223 silencer.

Their response was to ask to have it back and comment after they have a chance to look at it in person.

I should clear up one thing about my video. I have a YouTube channel that concentrates on Scout Rifles and General Purpose rifles. I don't have a huge following but big enough to catch a little attention. I was filming a video for this when the failure happened. I then shot some footage showing a closeup of the weld and a description of the failure. This was really just for SiCo to get the whole picture and that is the video I am waiting to hear more concrete information before posting. The video of my range session is only 20 seconds and it doesn't really show anything dramatic... just the front end of the can launching 50 yards down range. I was shooting steel at 200 and you can hear that impact as well which is why I know it was not a baffle strike.

Here is just the shooting part of the video:
I like how you kept shooting after it separates!
Good to know POI won’t shift!

Funny thing is, I actually didn't notice that it happened. The sound through the electronic hearing muffs makes the report pretty similar. There was more recoil but in unsupported sitting, it wasn't enough to do real damage. I was concentrating too much on getting steady in the sling to think about it.

The first time it happened was from prone and there was no way to ignore the increased recoil. When your body has nowhere to move, you feel every part of it.

It chaps my ass every time I get a notification on this thread because my paperwork was submitted on my scythe ti two weeks before this thread started. I've had no issues but still. I'm still leaning toward a UM or Stealth Additive Works can next.

Yes, I am in the same situation. I felt like I had researched the Scythe Ti properly (apparently I missed a comment from Form somewhere that indicated it would have problems). I was excited. And this thread came out while my can was in jail. Then the barrel job for the rifle took longer than expected. So I spent months with the can sitting in my safe, reading this thread the whole time.

All I can say about the Scythe is that it is pleasant to shoot whenever I forget that it might blow up. I’m still under 100 rounds of 6.5mm Grendel through mine.

I am eagerly awaiting my OG and look forward to testing them head to head.

My current prediction is this situation is in a transonic stage, pun intended. SilencerCo is in a period where they still have some control over the outcome of what they will have to do next; but the window will eventually close and someone else will be controlling what they have to do next.

I bet it will be similar to what Eotech had to do.

I'm personally sitting on 2 I'd send in with no hesitation for a refund on cans plus refund on tax stamps plus refund on accessories (end caps) plus shipping.

To try and help you feel better. I’ve had mine since they came out and I like it. Most of my chamberings are smaller so I keep it there. I’m not excited about the failures but it is what it is. I have a ram 3500 for towing and f150 for family run around stuff. I can read way more and expensive failures on those trucks than the scythe.

We should be able to use the scythe on any rifle we want but I don’t feel comfortable doing that. I/we have smaller chamberings that have to have a can too so I keep it there. I’m not worried about failing at all on 223/arc size stuff. If it does I’ll worry about it then. Just like the 10speed transmission on my ford and the def on my dodge. If it happens it happens but I can’t stress over it until it does.

I would gladly trade them back in for full refund and get TBAC ultra 7’s or possibly a reflex.

I cannot recall if it has been documented here by serial number range of the cans that have separated. Is there a manufacturing range of failure?

Not as far as anyone can tell. Some people have had a rebuilt Scythe blow up.

That is the same weld as my second one.
