Did a search and didn't see anyone talking about it yet...

Anyone got hands on an STM? Shot one at SHOT show or anything like that? I noticed they're in stock at Capitol Armory and are about $200 cheaper than the Ti, for a penalty of 3.4oz and 0.74" in length. I like the idea of the Ti but 10.4oz still strikes me as still quite light (in fairness, that's the 'K' configuration and would come to 14.7oz in full length configuration). I assume it'll have a different tone than the Ti but decibel ratings show to be very similar.

Am I missing something? Why wouldn't I save the $200 and go STM? Are the chances of this one self destructing a little lower than the Ti?

They have them at my local Scheels. I didn't handle one, but they look nice. I like the modular idea. I wish the Ti version had that ability.

I would think it would be a little more blow up resistant.

The difference between them... I think the Ti is worth an extra $200 because compared to the long, the dB is comparable but the long is about 0.75" longer and 7.4 oz heavier. The Ti is quieter and still lighter than the short.

But, maybe it would sound a lot better due to being steel.

In general, multipurpose items generally aren't great at anything. If you want light, get the TI. If you want better suppression and durability, get the Omega or YHM R2.

This is true. I know the STM is a different animal but I've just been put off SiCo after seeing all the Scythe Ti issues (I have a Saker 556 and I love it). I'm pretty much set on Hydrogen S, but can't find them anywhere.

I ordered a Scythe last week. Not worried about it, but will not using it on anything bigger than a 19 inch 270 Win.

It's statistically very unlikely to go boom. But... I can't lie to myself, I know I'd have a little bit of a hesitancy and a wince as I pulled the trigger. As someone learning to break out of recoil anticipation and shooting a lightweight magnum, I can't add even more flinch.

I wouldn't be worried about it on a 19" .270 either. It's looking like the majority of failures (but not all) are on 20" and under magnums.

I would think a shorter 270 would be fine, but there’s actually a decent list of what they’ve (Scythe - Ti) failed on - plenty of 22” PRCs and to my surprise, even a Creedmoor and 6 ARC.

Yeah its strange. My scythe was from the first batch that supposedly has the issue, but I have basically only shot it on shortie PRC's and have had no problems.. 20" 300, 24" and 17" 6.5, and a 17" 6 prc. At least it sounds like they take are of it quickly for people that have them blow up
