Seems to depend who you talk to. I had a sig 4k quit working on me this year after owning it for about a year. Of course it happened in the middle of my elk hunt. The first guy I spoke to was more interested in selling me a different rangefinder than getting mine fixed. He kept trying to get me into their most basic model for like a 50$ discount which was annoying. Finally I got ahold of somebody else who sent a brand new replacement which I am very appreciative for.

I threw my kilo 2k away vs the warranty hassle. I ran a leica lrf800 for more than 10 years and sold it working fine and was so happy with the sig.....but it was a time bomb.

On a lighter note, I bought a maven rf for a backup and am quite surprised how well it performs.

You'd be surprised at how many nonsensical requests come from "unhappy" customers.

Not saying customer service reps deserve a pass for what is considered rude or indifferent behavior, but sometimes you see a request or response and you think "Really? Are you really asking that?"

I've never had an issue dealing with Sig. Had a pair of binos that were discontinued that had the eye cup pull off when the twist out track broke. They replaced with another current model pair free of charge.

I understand that for sure.

But I think the 5 year from date of manufacture warranty was as nonsensical as it gets. Nonsensical enough for them to change it to lifetime.

No one who bought a rf from sig, ever got a 5 year warranty. By the time it was manufactured, sat in a storage facility in china, sat on a boat from china, went to a distrubutor, got to the retailer, sat in their warehouse or shelves - who knows how much of the warranty was left when you bought it. And then, I doubt anyone ever sat in a store and called sig with the serial number to know how much warranty is left. And if you order online, you wouldnt get the serial number.

Mine was 13 months. When I bought it new, the warranty was already 78% gone.
