Sig kilo 8k issue

I just bought the Sigg kilo 8K rangefinder a couple months ago I noticed the elevation was way off I also noticed that the onboard sensor barometric pressure was way off. I contacted Sigand they said there was no way to calibrate it I sent it into Sig and they said there was nothing wrong with the unit. It reads almost 3 inches HG from the national weather service in my area. That’s quite a bit. I will include pictures that I took within a minute or two of each other. Is it operator error Any advice from you experts out there would be greatly appreciated. thanks

I also compared the Sig to my old Leica rangefinder which was dialed in to the exact same load proven through many shots and at 585 yards the Kilo 8k was less .8 MOA than the Leica.

I would check with a kestrel. Weather stations typically display a sea level calibrated pressure. So if you are at say Denver the raw number will be lower then what the weather guy says. I got chewed on about this when I went from Texas to Whittington center in New mexico.

Will do. But isn’t 27 in/hg pretty darn low like hurricane pressure low. Also I am at 2600 ft elevation and the kilo says that I am at DA 4075 ft. I understand Density Altitude takes several things into consideration but 1500 feet seems like a lot. Again, any thoughts or help would be appreciated before I send this thing back to sig. Thanks again

Don't compare to NWS data, that will always be barometric pressure corrected for sea level. Your Sig will display absolute pressure and standard pressure at 2,500 ft is 27.3" so I'd also say, everything looks correct.

27ish is about right for station pressure at your altitude. Try using it on a target beyond 600 yards. If it gives you the correct ballistic solution your in business.

So to put my mind at ease I bought a weather station with a barometric pressure gauge. It didn’t help though it is still almost 3 in/hg off.

Weather stations always give your your corrected sea level pressure and this is correct at 29.99. Your unit is functioning perfect. I would advise you spend some time learning about absolute/station pressure. Here is a jump start.

OP: Did you determine why you were seeing your issues?

I have a new Sig Kilo 3000 BDX. The internal AB UltraLite and SIG BDX App solutions are consistently providing insufficient vertical MOA (holdover) guidance - up to 2 MOA at approx. 700 yards when compared to multiple (and validated) ballistic solutions including the Hornady App.

When I saw your post, I suspected the Station vs. Barometric pressure could be the cause. The Kilo3000 does not appear to have an onboard pressure sensor and I don't know what Baro data the BDX app pulls from my iPhone.

I exchanged multiple sets of data with SIG support. They validated my Hornady ballistics solutions, but can't explain why the Kilo3000 is providing significantly different solutions - all setpoints equal.

I just got a Kestrel 5700 Elite and will be running tests this weekend comparing the results.

I really want to figure this out so I don't always have to be tethered to the Kestrel. Any input appreciated!

Wyomingwomen44 was right about the station pressure. My Sig seems to be ranging very well out to 800 yards now. When I find a better range and time, I will test it past 800 yards. Sorry I am not much help. It has been a while but I think I just had to tweak the load data until Everything lined up
 
Top
