sig kilo 5k vs leica 2800

any input between these models? primary use is rifle hunting. next season will be for elk.

I am currently looking at these 2 models. Wondering if anyone has any updates? Sig looks interesting with the ability to mark the ranged spot on a map

I’ve had both and still have the 2800.com. Both are very good, fast to range and calculate your dope. Sig uses Applied Ballistics and Leica uses their own program. Both of mine match my Applies Ballistics app out to 875 yards. Leica has better glass and to me seems more simple to use. The BaseMap feature on the Sig was kind of neat, but it takes a few steps to get it connected and to drop a pin. It wasn’t a really intuitive process for me and took a couple of minutes to do. I really don’t know how useful it would be in the field.

Thanks for the feedback, I would like to stick to Leica but the gps marking seems like it would be helpful for solo archery stalks. Did the gps feature work offline?

I’m really not a good one to ask about that. To me it was a neat gimmick to play with for a short time and then I never used it again. For archery stalking it may be useful, but I don’t hunt that way and am not sure. I just know it was not a fast, point click and done feature. At least not for me.

It just took me too long to get everything connected and going back and forth between app and range finder. For someone more adept at electronics it probably wouldn’t be that much trouble. It was just too much for me to mess with.

Thanks for the reply. Does anyone else have experience with the SIG? Torn between the to and the GPS function would be beneficial I think if it works quick

The same process can be done manually using the Leica and Basemap app (albeit with slightly less precision). Basemap allows you to show a bearing ruler (they call it "XDR Navigation") that has distance marks on it. Step 1: Range your target, Step 2: Orient your phone to point in the same direction you just ranged, Step 3: Use the bearing ruler to drop a pin at the distance you ranged.

That I can tell, this is the same process the Sig (and the Leica Geovid Pro series) uses... only it transfers the range and bearing automatically to the app, hence the increase in accuracy (no need to estimate anything).

Automated? No, only the "Geovid Pro" line.

I recently was deciding between these two as well, I ended up going with the Sig, one of the main fallbacks on my previous rangefinder was the illumination being impossible to see I’m the snow on a sunny day or mid day on warmer days. Sig had a better illumination to me and a few more bells and whistles so I went that route. Ended up being super happy with it!

Yeah I used a friends for two days at the shooting range and preferred the sig at the end of the day. I feel that it was superior everywhere besides the glass quality the Leica was forsure better.

I have used my sig now in a pretty significant rain storm and had no issues out to 1000 yards didn’t try anything further because I wasn’t shooting anything further than that. And no, I haven’t used any of the map features just because I don’t have or use base maps
