Sig Cross Western Hunt Expo NEW CALIBERS

Schnees is making carbon six prefits for them. There’s a thread in the classifieds for it. 600~ bucks. 7-08 is in the list. 338 federal and a few others.

So please school me as I am ignorant on barrel swaps. Let’s say I bought the current version in 308. Could I then simply buy a barrel, screw it on and be shooting the insert flatter, hotter, more expensive cartridge here?

I mean, I like the branded vanguards and those sig's that are branded aren't bad but honestly it makes me feel like a bit of a little bitch when in reality I like the actual products minus the branding.

Yes. They send u a prefit barrel you can install yourself or take to a gunsmith to install. 7-08 is 308 based so it’ll run in the same mag and action. As is 6.5 Creed, 338 Federal, amongst others.

I'm tempted to get a 308 and ream it to a 300wsm. Not sure if the bolt face has enough room though..anybody have one to measure?

Yeah I wasn't sure about the longer barrels. I mean I get the velocity arugment but how much more do you get out of a 308/6.5 by going from 16/18 to 24?
From what slipped on a podcast they determined that 6.5 was designed on a 24" barrel and they weren't stabilizing the bullet and that is why they concluded there was accuracy problems.
Sounded like bro couldn't get there's to shoot adequately so Sig gave them a 308 barrel to swap on.

My 308 is pretty damn mediocre. No complaints here though. Love my cross.

If a guy already had a Cross that would work, but there's better options at that price point on the market for out of the box rifles in the other calibers

I'm interested. What other rifles at that price point come in an adjustable chassis, that are compact, and light weight (relatively)? My line of thinking is wait until the next action (supposed to be a medium action) and then grab a barrel that offers better ballistics. The only other gun that I'm considering is the Seekins PH2 but at 1800 and 2K after taxes, its a harder pill to swallow.

I bought the cross and regretted not buying a Christiansen MPR. So I went and bought one of those. Got them both home and needless to say the MPR is in the safe with no optic and has only been shot once. I wish I could get the cross in a 300 wsm or something similar.

What kind of groups are you getting with the 308?

I am getting under 1" with all factory ammo I've ran through my .308. Better with hand loads. I really like how it is setup and the ability for it to pack down small by removing suppressor and folding the stock appeals to me. I've had no issues folding the stock. Trigger is very impressive on it. Overall this is a great rifle. I especially like that I can adjust the LOP for my kids to shoot it as well.

Considering taking it to Kodiak for a goat hunt in two weeks... just can't quite bring myself to bring a chassis gun into the field with me. Just something about the feel of a traditional shaped hunting rifle I really like. I don't know...

That’s with matchkings. But I loaded 165 Accubonds with 44 grains of varget for a otc elk hunt. I was in a pinch for time and didn’t have a lot of time to tune it. I got sub moa accuracy (prob more like .75) and they were moving 2647 FPS. I do not have pics of that group unfortunately. The rifle was nice to carry. This was the first chassis rig I’ve carried in the mountains. Topped it with a VX5HD and a dead air nomad silencer.

Does anyone know if they’ll offer the 24” barrel Born and Raised edition in 308? Or anything longer than 18”? I wasn’t able to confirm one way or another in my reading and watching.

Yeah that was my first stop. Customer service wasn’t even aware of the BAR edition Cross. He said “not to sound ignorant but I’ve never actually heard of that product”. I think we all know more about their releases than they do. And yeah, I asked if he knew about any new chamberings. Got the answer you’d expect from a CS agent….
