Sierra Heavy TMK 6MM Testing

Uncovered you can pour cold water over it, I’m not patient enough to allow cooling time trying to get 20-30 round groups.
I normally just use a cover. Havnt gotten around to ordering one for mu OG65.

Today it was especially bad. Sun, snow, gusty wind, humidity in the air. Was a crappy day to shoot honestly.

Did you expand necks before loading or go straight to loading virgin brass

This brass probably has 10-14 firings. I make my own brass from 6.5 creed factory loads.

I'm going to load the rest of my 107s at 40gr H4350 2.800" (6 creed)

Quick Drop friendly on 16" barrel.

This is 40gr H4350:

Got my 107s in today as well. Will probably try these out in my 6 ARC first. Need my Rokstok to show up before I get serious with any load development though (factory Tikka stock is not my fave).

6creed
41.9 imr4350
2.800
2982fps
Same ring indent I get on the 77s from hornady custom grade die.
Shot a very similar group to 108eldm

Right on, I’ve found pulling the seating stem and wrapping a bullet in a small piece 3m 400grit sand paper, or some valve lapping compound, to work well. I prefer sand paper as it’s easier and I still shoot the bullet. I’m sure lapping compound is more precise, but it take a couple sacrificial bullets.

You guys need to get Forster Universal Seating Die kit. No rings left on the bullets.

I do not like Hornady dies for a variety of reasons, but that ring is one.
Forster? Or Frankford?
Also,Hornady makes a couple different seating stems for A-tips and Eld-m's & x's That don't leave any marks on long bullets.

107 TMK touching lands in a .183 freebore 6CM at 2.922”. I know we’re not to supposed to care about jump, but I wouldn’t go straight to 2.800” COAL for a .120 jump right out the gate. I’d be testing them seated as long as you’re comfortable with personally.

I'm gonna try them at 2.9" off the bat. I didn't hit the lands till 2.98" ish (.210 FB).

Ahhh. You got me. Frankford.

Yes. Their dies just suck.

@Nine Banger wish I saw your post earlier! Mine came in today, was heading out to shoot tomorrow anyway so I quickly rolled ten when I had time. Did the exact same thing and went for 40.5 H4350 in a 16” bbl. Same suppressor too.

Using Starline brass, seated a bit further out though. We’ll see. Don’t know the COAL, just put the top of boattail a smidge below the neck-shoulder junction then pulled it out 0.060 to see if it chambered (it did). Then seated it back & made them.

I’ll post the group & chrono

I have 6 different die sets from big H and they’re all crap except one. How do you get a long gouge in every form die? It looks like a boring bar didn’t back off a few thou and was just drug out of the die. Won’t ever buy another set. Seating wise they e been okay but not the best.

I should send them back but probably would just get the same back in return.

Agree, I’ll take some old lees over Hornady. That’s being said, I’m pretty loyal to Redding and forester

For the ring on the bullet take some diamond paste and put it on the bullet , chuck the bullet up in a drill and polish the seating stem. I’ve had to do this on multiple steams to remove the ring
. I get it to go away with a little work

I did a little testing with the 107 in a 22" 6 Dasher today with Varget to get an idea of speed and if I'd hit pressure. Loaded COAL 2.450". Didn't have any signs of pressure, will likely load some hotter to further test

This nails it. Personally I’ll run the 107 in my 6ARC but lean toward the 116 for a short barreled 6CM/243, for exactly this reason. MV in the 2600fps range makes quick drops way easier than when it’s up at 2800 or higher.

…can load the 107 down too though.

I don’t think anyone will complain with the wound channels from either.
Quick drop also works at higher MV better if you go to the final conclusion of using MRAD and forego yards for meters.
