Sierra Heavy TMK 6MM Testing

10 deer today. All bullets exited. They are performing as expected.

Pics of the wounds?

They seem to perform better than the dtacs on deer? I only had a sample size of two with the dtacs on deer. They definitely worked leaving nothing wanting. From 25 yards and 450 with the 6UM.

Just curious to see how your larger sample size compares.

Yes. But will take a few days to collate.

Yes. The NR DTAC’s do well at impact velocities on deer, they have long neck lengths at medium and low impacts.

There's some tradeoff. Single vs double base powders, 540 will gain some speed, but probably be a little less temp stable.

N150 is extremely consistent, if a touch slow. Very very popular with competition shooters in some of the 6's.

Actually the N5 series powders are more temp stable than the 1 series.

I was pretty sure it was powder dependent on stability. IE n555, n565, n150 are quite stable. N540, n560, n165 less so. Also read that some of the n1xx series formulations had been changed with additives to make them more stable in recent years.

Even n560 isn’t terrible. That last temp test I did from 34f to 120f I saw less than 10f difference on a 5 shot avg. I thought I had 560 issues last year, but I had scale problems lol

Newer to using Viht powders but it seems my current barrels seem to prefer their offerings over Hodg. Even for standard go to's like varget or 4350 h1000.

I think in part it's because I have a huge collection of Hodg so my tism has me try them all. With Viht there's only a couple maybe three choices.

What’s your favorite Viht substitute for H4350? N555?

I'm confused at your statement that there is only a couple of choices of Vihta Vouri powders. There are the V1xx series and the V5xx series powders for rifles and generally there are 2 or 3 powders in each series that work for a cartridge depending on the cartridge and bullet weight. I've see lower lot to lot velocity changes from cartridges loaded with the V5xx series powders than I have with Hodgdon or Reloader powders in general when discussing "high energy" powders and loads.
