Is anyone using the sierra gameking 165 hollow point boat tail in .308 win? (Sierra 2140)

I just picked up an x bolt speed in 308 and planned to shoot eldm but it doesn’t care for them much so I had these game kings on the shelf and loaded some up and have now shot a few sub moa groups

. Before I order up enough to really start shooting and practicing with I want to see what the opinion of this bullet is.

Sierra says it’s a harder bullet than the soft point spritzer game king so that has me a little worried that I’d have issues of it opening maybe out at 400+ and just penciling through.

My muzzle velocity is about 2760 and running a quick ballistics chart shows it still over 1800fps at 500 yards at 8500 feet where I usually hunt.
Plan is mainly elk but could include deer and antelope.

Curious if they offered a TMK. I thought they did. May be worth a box to see if they shoot as well? The only HP’s I’ve had good luck with were the 168SMK’s They produced golf ball size exit wounds and generally lost at least 1 petal in the animal on the small sub 300 lb Texas deer.

They do and what’s funny is they didn’t shoot out of my other 308 so I sold a bunch of them and would need to buy more again lol.

They’re not that hard. I run them at sedate speeds out of various 30/06s and they’re killers, think Garand loads 2650fps or a little more. They have given exits on everything I’ve shot with them. No elk but plenty of deer, pigs, and a caribou. Exits have been roughly tennis ball size and chest contents liquified. Have a buddy who shot a decent bull with one out of a 300WM with similar results.

Put them in the front half and have your knife sharp.

perfect thank you. I’m already getting over that speed so I shouldn’t have much to worry about it sounds like

I've shot deer with them out of a 308. The main reason for the 165 game King hollow point is the ogive is closer to the tip of the bullet by a little bit. It shoots very well out of some rifles that have long throats. A big buck here is 225 live weight. Don't know about elk.

The SBT game Kings are some of the best bullets out there for deer. With the HPBT game King you're more likely to punch through a shoulder blade without the bullet fragmenting and failing to penetrate further.

Like I said, I've only shot white tails with it but it's going to leave an exit between a quarter and a golf ball on them. Maybe bigger if you bust a big bone in the shoulder.

I have had two cases where 165 nosler ballistic tips penciled through and left a barely discernible exit and a deer that ran a long way. I strictly don't like that. Tracking is for bad shots. I have not had the Sierra bullets do that, ever. Ever. That's with over 90 deer on the dirt.

I'm talking muzzle velocity 2750. Impact velocity ~ 2000.
