Sierra Designs Quilt

Here is an option for a high quality quilt at a good price.

For about $270 you can get a 20 degree water resistant 850 fill down quilt from Hammock Gear. This quilt is warmer and lighter (18.7oz) than the Sierra Designs option. That price includes getting a wider quilt for use on the ground. An equivalent quilt to the SD from HG is the 40 degree and would run about $240 and weighs ( < 14oz). The HG standard quilts are for people <= 6'1". I would suggest you contact Adam before you purchase the SD quilt.

I second the Hammock Gear option. Just plan ahead as they are a cottage vendor and usually build at time of order.

I saw that quilt today while looking around their site. My opinion it is heavy for what it is and in trying to "improve" the quilt they kinda lost what makes a quilt, a quilt. the hood is a neat idea but its essentially a 40 degree quilt if it gets cold enough that you really want the hood chances are you are going to want a warmer quilt. the face hole looked like it was designed to allow you to see out but all your breathing is going to be in the bag even with dri down you are going to have condensation problems of some kind. They also made no mention in the video of any type of pad attachment straps. Also I am 5'7" with a slim/regular build this quilt is too big for me and they only make one size, way bigger than I need. Having switched to a quilt I haven't needed or wanted hand holds or arm pockets, but that's just me other people might like the added features and lack of straps.

My hammock gear burrow 20 should be here tomorrow. I'll try to snap a few pics and get an accurate weight for it. Not knowing what your price point is, its tough to give you good options, but the HG will be tough to beat for an 850 treated down quilt.

Price point is flexible as I'm looking to buy once and be done. I do however get a %40 discount on Sierra so I was intrigued but based on some of the comments here I think I will keep looking. Thanks guys.

Anyone have first hand experience with one? I have decided that a quilt is the way to go for me but some of them are so expensive I can't even consider them. This one seems like a lot of features and if it's really cold I could use a liner. Thanks in advance.

i dont have a quilt but do have a 15 down bag of theirs and it is plenty warm and have slept in a tent at 10F and could go down to 0 if i had a beanie and thermals

With a 40% discount I would consider one for summer use and answer the question do I want a quilt?
You could use it all summer figure out what you really want in a quilt and sell it for more than you paid for it.
Just a thought
