Sierra 116 TMK Load Data

I’m probably late to the party, but I loaded up my first 6CM loads ever and took them out

116 TMK
H4350
Fed 210M
1x Hornady brass (I’ve got a truck load of it… eventually I’ll grab Lapua or Peterson, etc)
Some at 2.9”. Others at 2.87” COAL

Rifle:

I know these are only 5 shot groups. I was mainly testing the waters for pressure. 41.5 gave me ejector marks and stiff bolt lifts a few times.
2.9” seemed to shoot better for me but the sample sizes are too small to know for sure.

40.5 avg 2949
41 avg 2976
41.5 avg ~3000

I’ll load up 20 or so at 40.5 get a solid 10 round group and check them at distance.

Trying to decide between the 107s and the 116s for my 6 creeds. Are the 116s working out of 1-8" twist barrels? I have one 18" 1-8 and one 18" 1-7.5. I have a bear hunt at 7-10,000' in September but live at 1400'.

My 116s work well out of my 20” 1-8” twist .243 at 2800 feet of elevation and about 2750 FPS.

Slight swipe on the case head. Last 5 shot group with same load gave an SD of 1.6fps and .78MOA

Shot this same load again, now with sized brass.

The result.

Slightly slower than the last group as I’m assuming related to the fired brass had larger inside dimensions but SD was similar.

Going off what I’ve seen guys doing in this thread, I loaded five each at 39, 39.5, and 40 grains.

39- 2820 fps
39.5- 2833 fps
40- 2845 fps

39 and 39.5 were both just under an inch for 5 shots, 40 was 1 1/8”. No pressure signs with 39 or 39.5, slightly flattend primers at 40 and one piece of brass had a light ejector mark. Gonna load up a bunch at 39 and get a good zero, then verify my velocity at longer range.

Edited to add I didnt check OAL. Found the lands, then seated em about 30 thou deeper to fit in an M+ magazine.

Loaded up 30 at 39 grains H4350 and went out this afternoon to zero and true velocity. Shot a 15 round group to zero, shot a few at some rocks, then used the last nine on a piece of plywood at 682 yards. Didnt hold anything for wind, just held center of my paint spot.


Elevation was great on all but one that I dropped . Still, I’m happy with a 9”x11” group at that range. With my current wind calling capabilities, that’s farther than I’ll probably ever shoot at an animal. Looks like 2824 fps mv is going to work.

Am I the only one have difficulty getting these 116s to shoot small? Got a new barrel 6saw. Breaking barrel in, loaded up 41.5gr H4350 cci450 primers. Loaded the 116 from 30 to 93 thou off lands, 007 jump spacing. So 10 different 5 shot groups. 51-64 off were okay, like in 6s and 7s. But everything else was so so. Loaded 112 Barnes, 109 eldm, 108eh at jumps I've had success with in the past, and had several 5 shot groups in the 2s and 3s.

Maybe H4350 isn't the right powder. I'll be testing rl26, N555 and rl16 in the jumps that were showing promise. Rl16 and the 115 tmk prototype did shoot pretty well in one my 6cm. I've found the 107tmk to be more finicky than others in my short 6 dasher as well. It's a dasher, but took more effort than normal to get consistent repeatable 5 shot half moa groups.

West Texas ordinance's case. I believe it's similar to a Creed/308 but maybe a little more capacity.
The 7 saw is supposed to be a better 7-08.

This load was a little hot. I would probably drop a half grain if I was going to chase the 116s. The 107s shot better so I'm going with those.
