Sierra 116 TMK Load Data

Yes its on the tape. 2553 avg. I am using a jefferson outdoor hinged floorplate, I believe it allows up to 2.485 something like that.

Not sure how helpful this'll be to most, as I'm shooting 243 fast twist loaded long, but I've been trying some powders that I have on the shelf that I don't currently have a particular use for. Seeing if I can find a use for this oddball stuff that I bought when I was happy to be able to buy anything labeled gunpowder.
Anyway, I've tried the loads below, and have settled on my load for the year.

Going to load all these I can with the 2 pounds of powder I have.
243 17 inch barrel 1-7 twist
243 116TMK - 2.96 OAL
Hodgon Superformance 43.4 grains
2731 FPS
5 shot group .418 moa
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also tried the below, all 2.96oal
Superformance - 43gr. 2701fps same group as 43.4gr. One .4 inch ragged hole for 5 shots
StaBall 6.5 43 gr. 2801fps 1.5 inch group
IMR4831 42 gr 2694fps .78moa 5 shots

I loaded up four more rounds of n570 in the 6-284. 58.0 grains to 59.5 grains looking to find pressure since my 8 shot test didn't show anything. Slight primer cratering on all four. Ejector marks on 58.5 and up. I forgot to press okay on the chronograph and missed the first shot reading.

58.0 - n/a
58.5 - 3151
59.0 - 3181
59.5 - 3209

I think based on this I'm going to load around 57.0 and shoot for groups.

I loaded up 20 rds of the 116's today for my 6CM. Set the first seating depth to a COAL of 2.85. Seated some more and checked and was getting as much as .006 difference in COAL's. Just figured it was tolerance in the plastic tip but then I measured CBTO and was still getting 3-5 thousandths variance. Anyone else notice this? The 107's I loaded the other day were spot on and very consistent in measurements.

Grab a handful of loose bullets and check them. If they are close to the same average BTO then you have to look at your case mouth chamfer, neck tension, or powder fill (compressed loads will push back).

Just checked a handful....

Looks like I found one big outlier and I measured that one several times.

I'm running an OCW test with H4350 from 39.6 - 41.6 in new alpha brass. I thought case fill looked pretty full but im just a reloading newbie.

I see 2, 0.744 and 0.735 that are outside your average 0.740 range. Might have to see if those are outside your average weight also.

Crap you're right. Missed that guy. I'll check some more and weigh the outliers as well.

Finally got out to get some velocity data with the 22" Howa 6 ARC. Genuinely surprised by the velocities I got. It's worth noting that these are the same bullets that got mangled from page 6 of this thread, so the BTO measurement is not actually the same as what's shown here. I think the highest load was about .030 longer BTO.

New lot of Varget is quite a bit faster than previous lot. Will be dropping to 32.5gr going forward.
